Ron Paul in Sasha Baron Cohen's Bruno?

"Bruno" dropped his pants in front of him and Ron Paul walked out. That's as (or more) mild a reaction as you'd ever get from a straight person. Can't see him being criticized for that.
omg!!! why didnt ron paul want to make love to him!! he must be a homophobe!!!

Oh my god. I can't help but laugh but... this is going to be so bad for us... and Cohen doesn't target liberals... probably because there's a high probability they'd take the bait and suck him off.

You can't, I'm just anticipating the typical reaction from sites such as digg.

People who are already anti-RP will stay anti-RP.

But no one who is pro or indifferent to Ron Paul is going to turn against him because of this. This is about as tame a reaction as you'd get from a straight man who has a "gay guy" drop his pants in front of him.

Gay groups hate Cohen. They'll target him for putting homosexuals in a bad light. The loser will be Cohen.

 Are you on the staff or was this already answered?

Is that a yes? To which question of mine?

i'm not a staffer. this is WHY its my thought of the day...
i have spent the WHOLE day really WONDERING about how
the legal permission was arrived at for the film to now be seen.

Everyone should try not to make a judgment call until they ACTUALLY SEE IT. We all know how inaccurate the media can be and that's what you are relying on.

What would Barney Frank have done?

May I refer you sir, to the rules of this forum:

uh-oh Ron Paul tricked...

I hope he said weird and not queer. I know he respects gay peoples rights so its a shame if he said queer. Perfectly understandable though if this happened to me unexpectedly I'm sure all sorts of things would come out of my mouth...

I attended the first screening of Bruno here in Los Angeles. I'm a huge Ron Paul supporter. When Ron Paul came on screen the majority of the audience cheered, clapped, and hollered. The Slate article was inaccurate regarding Ron Paul's scene however. When Bruno pulled his pants down, Ron Paul jumped up and tried to leave the bedroom, but was blocked by Bruno. Ron Paul yelled, "Get out of here," and pushed him aside. As Ron Paul was leaving the hotel room walking towards the elevators, he said something to the effect of, "That guy's queerer than blazes." Ron Paul was visibly uncomfortable, but he didn't do anything that would reflect poorly on himself.

Some collectivists gays might but not all. Typically these are the same lefties who would target him whether they were gay or not.

There are plenty of free thinking gays out there.

"Oh my god. I can't help but laugh but... this is going to be so bad for us... and Cohen doesn't target liberals"

I have two reasons why I think he targeted Ron Paul:

1) Because RP had a large young internet savvy group of followers. Cohen knows that this incident would get out, go viral, and create more buzz for his movie. It worked.

2) Cohen probably looked into him more and saw that he was a principled libertarian/conservative and--being a leftist,--hated him to the extent he wanted to embarrass him. In his movies he targets what leftists typically identify as the "backwards right"....that's the raison d'etre of his films. Think about how he targets the South and conservative social mores in general: Bob Barr, Pat Buchanan, fraternities, country bars etc. While he does tweak some liberal targets in Borat (can't remember specific ones but it was only minor if I remember correctly) most of it is directed to the cultural right.

I think it would be interesting to have an anti-Cohen infiltrate NOW, PETA, Greenpeace etc. But somehow I don't think it would be as popular with the media.

I'm pretty sure he didn't go towards Paul because he hated him because he's a leftist. Conservatives, especially older ones, are very easy to make fun of, and he saw the opportunity. I'm sure if he did look into him at all, he would have known that he has nothing against homosexuals anyway.
