Dear Liberty Activist,

Just last week, I sent you an email letting you know my staff would be following up with you shortly to tell you everything you need to know about our plans for the Republican National Convention.

My staff has been busy burning up the phone lines, so many of you may have already heard from them.

But because this email is so important, I wanted it to come directly from me.

For several weeks now, I’ve been up front about the fact that Mitt Romney has obtained enough delegates to secure the Republican nomination.

That fact hasn’t changed - and it’s not going to change.

Over the past few weeks, my staff and I have researched the numbers extensively.

We’ve come to the conclusion that even if by some miracle all delegates to the Republican Convention were unbound, I would receive approximately 300 votes at the National Convention - far short of the 1,144 needed to secure the Republican nomination.

It’s also come to my attention recently that many supporters believe a win at the upcoming Nebraska State Convention this Saturday could be an important step for my campaign’s success in Tampa.

While my campaign is hoping to do as well as possible there, I can’t imagine a scenario where my goals or my plans for our R3VOLUTION in Tampa would change. They are:

*** Ensuring as many of my delegates as possible are credentialed.

There are many folks in the GOP who want my supporters to just shut up and go away, and they have resorted to every dirty trick in the book to game the system at various state conventions. You and I must ensure that as many of my supporters as possible are credentialed at the Republican National Convention.

*** Planting our flag.

Just by seeing a flood of my delegates in Tampa, you and I can respectfully send a loud and clear message that we are the future of the Republican Party. Seeing so many new and young faces at the RNC will show that despite their best efforts to maintain their iron grip over the Republican Party, our liberty movement is the future of the GOP;

*** Affecting the Platform.

By fighting for an internet freedom plank, Audit the Fed, and a plank opposing the indefinite detention of American citizens – and perhaps even opposing the so-called “PATRIOT” Act and undeclared war - you and I can prove we are a growing force in the Republican Party and perhaps convince more GOP elected officials to come our way on these critical issues;

As a National Delegate or Alternate, you’ve invested a lot of your time, talent, and hard-earned money into my campaign and our cause of liberty.

For that I am deeply grateful - and I can’t thank you enough.

I’m looking forward to going to Tampa and celebrating the success of my campaign, and more importantly, our bright future.

So if you haven’t yet done so, please CLICK HERE and register as a delegate or alternate so you can be kept up-to-date on our plans in Tampa.

And if you know of any other delegates in your state, please forward this email to them, as well.

I hope to see you in Tampa.

For Liberty,

Ron Paul

Thanks Dr. Paul, but it would have been nice if you were nominated.

Im not sure what the future holds for the GOP but it certainly needs a lot of cleaning up.

It's kind of baffling. I don't understand why he and the campaign feel the need to constantly hammer it into people's heads "Oh, just in case your forgot, it's impossible. You know it's impossible, right? All we can do is change the platform a little, anything more is impossible." Even though this may all be true, how does it help anyone to say all this and completely take all the little wind remaining in everyone's sails? If it's to prevent people getting disappointed or something, it's not really necessary. I don't think anyone is particularly EXPECTING some insane miracle to happen that grants him the nomination.

It doesn't mean too much to me, but I see how insanely hostile many in the movement have become from all this (a level of hostility that becomes unjustified, granted) and you would think they could kind of get a sense of the emotions going on around supporters lately.

I think at this point, we can eliminate any possibility of Ron Paul winning the nomination in tampa.

'Directly from him' sure doesn't sound like him. I also say ignore the campaign and do our best to get Ron nominated. I have to see Ron say something himself to believe it is from him at this point. If you piece together all the things HE said on one thread and all the campaign has said it seems like very different messages.

Whatever, I'm not going to change my direction.

What gain would there be to do that?

Fight through the finish line!

It seems from this email he doesn't care about being nominated on the floor or winning Nebraska. Nevertheless we should continue fighting.

I think it has always been unlikely, and since the campaign started sending out emails like this, depressing participation, more unlikely. However, that 'Romney could be eaten by a shark or convicted of a Ponzi scheme' meme isn't any less valid now than it was. We would always have had to persuade other delegates even were they unbound, that isn't a change. Nebraska by my count is BEYOND the fifth state to put Ron into nomination, since binding says nothing about being bound for NOMINATION purposes, and we want that nomination speech. Ron himself has said he wants it, and I saw him say that with my own eyes. I'd have to see him say otherwise with my own eyes before I believed otherwise.

And I also agree that putting this out before Nebraska is truly weird. As was the email right before Texas. Etc.

And yeah, I think 300 is low, but if accurate, the TShirts already exist

I think what Ron is saying is that he no longer wants this to be about him personally, and just about the ideas of Liberty. The MSM can polarize opinion about an individual, and they have done, but it's much harder to do this to ideas, especially if those ideas are right.

Even were that so there is no reason to send this out now. His ideas are much better spread, nominated from the floor. 300, properly distributed (and I think that number is low) can definitely nominate him into contention.

Regardless of whether he wrote them or not, it's what he believes. I know some people are not ready to accept this, yet.

But in order to capitalize on the gains we have made, we must not overshoot the target. I switched to Republican last year just to vote for Ron Paul. I'm not naive enough to think the party will change overnight. However, I do think taking the GOP is the best course of action for our movement. I think Ron Paul is thinking the same thing. It's disappointing we didn't get the whole thing, but we're getting closer. I'm pretty sure Dr. Paul doesn't want a convention disruption to cause a setback. WE can use the gains we've gotten to build for more. I'm not a patient man, but I'm willing to keep working.

apparently you didn't see his speech at the Texas Convention, because this letter sounds nothing like what Ron was saying at the Texas Convention.

why do i get the feeling ron doesn't write his own emails.

I think it is unusual for candidates to write their own campaign emails...staff does that. But I'm sure Ron reads and approves them, and Doug Wead has said that he does.

Whats disturbing is that is claims this 'its directly from me'.

The other thing that is disturbing is that Ron himself has shown NO optimism about even being able to get nominated into a speaking slot?

To me, it sounds like he's over it and has just passed this over to Benton and crew to do whatever the hell they want. There have been so many great opportunties at the end here that have been met with annoying silence or a negative tone from the campaign.
