Ron Paul/Barry Goldwater Jr. to be on the ballot in LA

Remember, this is a deep red state that hates McCain. It is a state that has an appreciation for Barry Goldwater and where we almost won the GOP Caucus.

Is LA really a deep red state? I've always thought of it as one of the most liberal states in the U.S. Have I been so mistaken?

Tyler, you'd have to look at the election law in each state--but this is not possible in most, or even several, states. Louisiana and Montana are anomolies.

LA is one of the deepest red-states in the Union, lagging behind Alaska, Utah, Montana, Idaho, and Georgia.
But it is also 2/3rds registered Democratic--but thats because of the legacy of southern Democrats and the anti-Republicanism that is still pervasive amongst conservatives here.

Conservatives have to love the South. It's a competition between all parties on who can be more conservative.

BTW, I think South Carolina has you beat on extremism. "Extremist"=Principled in that state.

South Carolina cannot beat Louisiana in terms of "Extremism". In our 1991 Gubanatorial election, we had 2 candidates on the ballot and no ability to write-in or vote third party. The two candidates? Convicted criminal and former Governor Edwin Edwards and former Grand Dragon of the KKK (and elected State Representative), David Duke. Edwin Edwards would win after bumper stickers and signs appeared all over the state that said, "Vote for the crook, its important!"

As for conservative loving the south--its really a competition between all parties on who can be more big-government conservative. Hating Muslims is a great thing, War is unquestioned, English should be the only language, and the free market is basically evil.

It has been subjugated by military force, and it will take a real revival of the Old South (minus racism and slavery) for it to be prosperous and conservative again.

Thomas Jefferson is the original constitutionalist libertarian-type. He was from Virginia, the South. John C. Calhoun was an example of an early conservative politician, he was a South Carolinian. The secession of the Southern states was an attempt to get the North from tariffing the South to death. Also, the areas you speak of for Northern conservatives were some of the places where Southern sympathy abounded during the war. California actually contributed more soldiers to the South than the North.

Im speaking mostly of modern history--because if you want to look to where our ideology was founded you actually have to look further back than the existence of the US. Our modern ideology was not born in any specific geographic area, but is predominantly Republican (with the almost-lone exception of Larry McDonald of Georgia) and rural.

I have goldwater's media coordinators number, we can get him down here to push the ticket.
But i'm not calling until it is confirmed.

Sorry for letting the cat out of the bag early, Trent. The email got me too excited. It sounded like a for sure thing by their response. They have freaking socialists on the ballot in Louisiana, so they better at least let us on there.

They've updated their website, and the Paul/Goldwater ticket is listed here.

Wow...there are two different socialist party tickets listed on the ballot.
