Romney will not get the independent voters without Ron Paul.

ONLY Ron Paul attracts independents.

Period.

And independents determine elections.

Should retitle to "No other Republican stands a chance besides Ron Paul".
Or perhaps "A vote not for Paul is a vote for Obama".

As much as I've tried to hammer this home with GOP voters (not as a threat, but pretty much a fact), too many jsut don't want to listen.... The polls have certainly helped reinforce that meme, but at the same time it's a self-fullfilling prophecy when each beauty-contest is said to create "momentum", "surge", and that gets focused on over appeal to swing voters that should be a much bigger focus.

I mean, one has to wonder why they liked moderate McCain last go round, if they didn't care about independent voters?

My best friend is an independent and a huge Romney fan. As a matter of fact, his sister is the same way. Just because you want something to be true doesn't make it so.

Just because you have one data point doesn't make it so. Look at all the exit polling. Ron is leading when it comes to independents. Just take Va for example where ONLY Romney and Paul were on the ballot. RON rocked Romney 2 to 1 with Independents. If Ron doesn't pull a Rabbit out of a hat and get the nomination, I hope a third party candidate runs...

But Ron Paul will not get the Romney supporters either.

And the exit polls you talk about only show that they PREFER Ron Paul. Has nothing to do with if they would vote for Romney if Ron Paul was not on the ballot.

If I had a choice between a nice steak or chicken, I would choose a steak. However, it doesn't mean that I don't like chicken. I like chicken very much and would much rather have it then, say, spaghetti or pork chops. Al those polls tell us is that Romney is not steak. But he may be chicken.

Independents tend to be moderate...like Romney.

You may say that one data point is not enough, but you have none. Just a misinterpreted exit poll.

You are really trying to make a case for Mitt on a Ron Paul forum.

Romney is a Moron with a spine as disengenuous as a slug. Romney cannot best obama because of the simple truth -he is as close to obama as anyone else. He doesn't inspire. He doesn't move you with conviction.

Romney could never get my vote. He is obama.

I would consider him if one of the Paul's were Vp. Otherwise I would sit it out. Let the Gop burn.... it is a sorry shadow of itself

Romney is toast in any general election, he's so disconnected from the concerns of the average person it's really stunning to behold that level of detachment. And he really offers nothing other than to manage Obama's agenda better than Obama does - there's not really any meat on that wing, it's been chewed up by all the typical well-funded GOP establishment interest groups. That he is the leader shows the effectiveness of the media blackout against Paul and the amazing lack of leadership anywhere else in the GOP. I mean, come on - Newt? Santorum? Are they kidding me or what? Why do they get media attention and former governors Roemer and Johnson don't?

Media definitely in the tank for Obama. Prolly wouldn't allow a Rom/Paul ticket.

Doesn't look like he will get the youth vote... they are on to him.

It will be close I think between Mitt and Obama but the Dems will almost certainly win which we need to set the table for 2016 and beyond.
