Romney makes Ad buy in Maine...Seen as crucial state now

The simple fact he is taking a day off in one of the most important state (he needs a win) is just bad game. Even if you are winning, you should not do it to avoid those kind of threads and media buzz words.

RP should be resting in a Hotel in Maine. Period.

Questions and Answers would be great as well.

It's safe to assume that Romney has inside information on the caucus totals to date. Which means that he thinks he can win Maine (with his ad buys and so on) but probably doesn't think he's currently ahead. So yeah... that extra day of campaigning would really have been helpful. We can only hope that the grassroots and phone from home will be able to make up for Paul's absence on Friday.
On the plus side (as regards our actual chances of winning Maine, not as regards the campaign's decision to try to stroll into the endzone), Romney's GOTV efforts lately have been pretty horrible (CO and MN really bad, NV arguably also an underperformance). But it's a piss-poor strategy to rely on your opponents to suck worse than you do.

The problem with Maine is most people don't caucus. Only a few thousand caucused in 2008.

Found that out today doing phone from home, trying to top 100 calls today, majority of those who answer want nothing to do with the caucuses.

"Based on the data, we're up like 30 votes in the rural counties. "

Do you live in Maine? How do you know this?

I hate hearing stuff like, "He/campaign knows what they're doing." Yet we have not won a single state yet.

Yikes, people. You people drive me insane. It has already been posted a number of freaking times that Ron Paul will be in Maine on Friday.

It was changed to Saturday. He'll be there after almost all of the caucuses are already over.

Yep. He needs to get his butt down there pronto. It's going to be razor thin, and it's crucial that we win. The grass roots is restless and discouraged. When they see their candidate not fighting, they don't want to fight. In terms of cost/benefit, it would be a huge win. There are only a couple major population centers left, so unlike large states where a candidate can only reach a tiny percentage at a time, in Maine, Paul could be talking to personally to enough people to make a difference.

Hope he changes his mind and hops a plane tonight or first thing in the morning and hits Portland with a vengeance.

Anyone know if he'll be doing an actual caucus speech like he did in MN?

Has Ron done anything in the state since the 2 day visit back on January 27-28?

I want to get a handle on what constitutes "contesting the state aggressively".

Have radio, newspaper, tv ads been running?

that is pure cover for a Romney loss. He was contesting Nevada and Minnesota, he swung through Maine which he hadn't been to I don't think since 2008, whereas Romney is there for fundraisers for government types all the time. And he has them on his side, accordingly.

I really expect the Paul campaign to work hard to try to win Maine. I know the Paul campaign expects *me* to work hard for it. But why should I send money when it looks like their trying to give it away to Romney?

Ad buys? Campaign visits? We need to win this. Or don't we care?

If Romney needs to win because of the loses in the midwest, then he is going to buy it..watch.

Fingers crossed.....Maine is the new Iowa. If we don't win here we can say goodbye to winning the nomination.

Roversaurus, you hit the nail on the head.....Any casual observer knows that if you want to win a critical State for your Presidential Nomination you spend as much time on the ground as possible leading up to election day.

Why Ron Paul is repeating the same mistake that was made after his strong New Hampshire finish and going back to Clute, Texas is utterly shocking. I cannot fathom why they are back in Texas and not doing non-stop Campaigning in person in the Pine Tree State.

If we lose Maine, and it is perceived by the RP Nation that the main reason was that Ron was not Campaigning hard in the State in the final days look for the RP Grassroots to blow a gasket. Many will leave believing, with what will now be pretty strong evidence, that Ron is about the Message and not at all about winning.

That is the sad truth. I pray and am working hard for a win in Maine, but now am extremely worried because the Ron Paul will not come to Maine until the day of the largest caucus's, Saturday.
