Roll Call: Associate Confronted Rep. Ron Paul About Flights

I'm not even giving them traffic. Is the disgruntled former staffer Dondero?

Zzzzz...campaign's almost over, last chance at media attention for this bitter staffer. Shameful.

They don't realize he initially paid with his own money because he gets frequent flyer miles and bumps to first class so the campaign pays back what he personally funded.

Non issue is non issue.

It's called grasping at straws...the media has nothing left to attack Paul on so they embellish any little thing...I haven't read the article but from what I know, there is probable some reasonable explanation for the costs etc...

edit: Ok, I read the story: so the logic goes: Ron books a flight, gets reimbursed out of his House budget but also then submits an expense report to Mr. James to get another reimbursement. So in fact he is being paid to fly?

So I doubt that Paul is personally in charge of submitting expense reports etc...Therefore, the most likely explanation is an incompetent accountant/treasurer, namely his daughter, who submits expensing without paying attention to the flights etc...or the more sinster explanation deliberate fraud. I would lean towards incompetence. She should be fired but she's s family and that's the trouble with using family to do business work...oh well, Ron should just reimburse James and clear up the mistake.

A related story about first class tickets was debunked by that Lawrence what's-his-face on MSNBC, but this story hasn't been yet, to my knowledge. I saw it a while back and have been waiting for an explanation.

I will follow you with +rep for a week if I can get an answer. I'd offer to donate more to the campaign but I donated my last $25 in savings to the campaign toady. :( :toady:

Just post this:

They're throwing away trillions in DC yet focusing on Ron Paul's pennies...

Tell him he's fucking brain damaged if he thinks a guy who voluntarily does not take his $50k/year Congressional pension is somehow engaged in dirty dealing under the table for a few thousand extra bucks.

The problem with this story is it's completely inconsistent with Ron's entire life and if it were true it would be a much bigger story. I'm gonna guess it's FALSE.

So, the accusation is that he got money dishonestly by being reimbursed twice for the same ticket; the "evidence" is that he was reimbursed the same sum by two different sources for a flight on the same day. The explanation? There are two that come to mind:
Either Ron Paul, an already-quite-wealthy public figure who has spent over a decade opting out of the congressional pension plan (through which he could have been receiving in excess of $80,000 a year by now), has at the same time been secretly, underhandedly sneaking a few hundred dollars here and there on plane tickets,
OR, Ron Paul just bought two tickets for the flights in question, because he was flying with his wife or a staffer or some such, and was reimbursed once for each ticket.

The idea that Ron Paul is stealing or misusing funds is insane. There is, as we all know, an easy explanation other than corruption. No way is Ron Paul corrupt. I'd bet my life on it.

They're claiming they already ruled out the latter. That was Benton's attempt at an explanation.
