RNC member: Trump can win with 1,100 delegates

Republican National Committee member Randy Evans said Wednesday that Donald Trump would likely be able to secure the Republican nomination if he captures anything more than 1,100 delegates, short of the 1,237 delegates needed for a simple majority.

"If Donald Trump exceeds 1,100 votes, he will become the nominee even though he may not have 1,237," Evans said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

 Translation for the politically illiterate. Trump can win it all with 1100 delegates plus the other delegates he can get with wheeling and dealing. Thread title is misleading. If Trump doesn't get to 1,237 then he has to get delegates from people like Rubio and Kasich...which is why he started playing nice all of a sudden and offering them the VP slot.

This is simply the reality of things, the RNC has no plans of actually committing suicide by trying to screw Trump out of the nomination at the convention, especially if he's within a couple dozen delegates of securing 1237 on the first ballot. Cruz has very little, if any, cred left with the GOP leadership, he's spent the better part of his time in the senate burning bridges solely for the purposes of sating his own ego.

Every single person on here that was whining like little children over Rand endorsing McConnell, you are getting exactly what you deserve. This is how this stuff works, love it or leave it.

Media reporting generally sucks ass at getting details right. Trump absolutely needs 1237 delegate votes on the convention floor to secure the nomination. Evans is saying that if Trump gets ~1,100 bound delegates, he will get the remaining required 137+ delegates from the group of uncommitted/unbound delegates. He may or may not be correct in that assessment.

BTW, Randy Evans has publicly proclaimed his support for Trump FWIW.

Endorsing Mitch McConnell was a tactical mistake that angered a lot of the teocons that Rand worked so hard to court when he ran for senate. And Cruz "burning his bridges" in the senate by calling Mitch McConnell a liar is why Cruz is poised as the "anti Trump" that Rand should have been. Instead Rand "burned bridges" with teocons by saying Cruz was wrong for calling McConnell a liar when everybody knows McConnell actually lied.

That said, 1100 is not "a couple of votes" shy of 1237. And the GOP is toast this election cycle (and maybe for the foreseeable future) either way they go. Cruz people have already started saying they won't vote for Trump and Trump people have already started saying they won't vote for Cruz and both groups would reject any conceivable "dark horse" candidate that gets brought forward.

LOL. Well there you have it.

Rand is way too establishment friendly. Ron Paul set the winds in the right direction for Trump. Rand went the wrong direction. It baffles me. Also he is too PC.

Just look at the establishment lane. It got destroyed. IF Hillary wins and in 4 years Rand keep toeing the corrupt establishment. he will lose again badly.

My "whining" was directed at Rand, for endorsing Romney over his own father.

Yeah, this is how it works, and it's a sick joke, and I find myself better off deciding not to give a fuck about the idiot clown show anymore.

Rand has the best record of any Senator in over 100 years. And yet you prefer a lifelong corrupt liberal?

You keep throwing around that phrase "he is too PC" without defining what you mean. I don't think "PC" means what you think it means. Donald Trump, in his own way, is very PC. He doesn't believe much of what he says but it's the politically correct thing to do in the politics he's doing.

I agree that Rand being too friendly with the establishment hurt him. The miscalculation he made wasn't in being friendly with McConnell, but in carrying McConnell's water in attacking Cruz. When asked about what he thought about Ted Cruz calling McConnell a liar he should have said "I am friends with and respect both men and this sounds like a personal issue between them and I will leave it to them to work it out." Instead he used it as an occasion to attack Cruz. That was indeed a mistake.

Oh, come on... MY clown is better than Your clown!

The chorus is for Anti fed and other people who have a problem with Rand endorsing Romney

I don't agree. All it would take for the sheep in the GOP to fall in line is the word "Hillary" and they will vote for Satan himself if necessary to stop Hillary. Same thing with team blue. Sheep are easily herded.

Know when to walk away, know when to run...abso-fucking-lutely right.

If this "prize" requires you to sell out your own father to "get ahead" (which led to nothing anyways), yeah, time to run.

Thread topic is about Trump and delegates. Let's stay on topic.

I was talking about knowing when to fold part. At the time Rand endorsed Romney, the election was lost. Holding onto what is lost never helped anyone. It was time to move on and try a new strategy and it is sad that some did not recognize that reality
