The democrats unwittingly think they can win in 2008. They know (see) that 70% of the American public is against the war and they are counting on us to elect a pro-war candidate so that the people (independents who have become anxious and lost faith) have no other option. But despite what they think, the republicans will win in 2008, because the GOP has a secret weapon and that secret weapon is Ron Paul.
While the democrats have studied Marx all their life, Ron Paul has studied Ludwig Von Mises and free market economics is his intellectual passion. If you've watched him carefully you've seen him thoroughly destroy any notion that socialism actually helps the poor and every other ridiculous argument for following the Communist Manifesto rather the United States constitution. (They will love this!)
Ron Paul is a Christian. He’s a veteran. He’s a pro-life doctor who has himself delivered over 4,000 babies. He’ll secure our borders and end the government giveaways that encourage people to come here illegally in the first place. (Great line!)
He is the only person in congress with a perfect record, going back decades of always following the constitution. Ron Paul has never, voted for a tax increase, not even one time in the 10 terms he's been in congress. He has never voted for an unbalanced budget or a raise in congressional pay - actually he returns a portion of his budget to the treasury every year.
His philosophy extends into his personal life and profession as well. Back when he was a doctor, he would refuse to take medicare from his patients, instead, he would treat them for free out of his own pocket. He refuses to take the lucrative congressional pension program. He refused for his children take government loans for college, he found a way to pay for them himself instead. He is so dedicated to his philosophy that he even named his son Rand Paul after Ayn Rand (Im not sure if republicans will go for that last sentence)
Our national debt is now over $9 trillion and as our government keeps borrowing and printing more money, the value of our dollars keeps going down, making everything more expensive. Dr. Paul will save us trillions of dollars by bringing our troops home to keep America safe. We won the war. He’s the only one who’s committed to keeping our priceless troops out of nation-building and policing actions that we can’t even afford and have to beg China to lend us money for. (I would change this sentence to say "He's the only candidate who is committed to keeping our troops out of nation-building and UN resolution enforcement, our men and women are too priceless to send into battle on a whim; but only when it is absolutely neccessary for the safety and security of the american people, Nothing Less" or something like that)
It’s not a matter of whether we want to continue the war or not, it is a matter of whether we end it now, deliberately or have it end later because of a failing economy. The terrorists could never hope to defeat our military but they will destroy our economy if we continue down the route we are taking.
The terrorists don’t come and kill us (change this sentence to "...arn't inspired to murder innocent people...) because of women’s rights or because we have more money than they do. The prime motivation is occupation. We had set up permanent bases in Saudi Arabia before 9/11. Bin Laden seemed to think we we’re trying to take over the Middle East. In fact, this is why he declared war on us. The reason why I believe this is because that is exactly what he said. It really doesn’t get any more clear cut than that. (I would try to steer clear of mentioning bin laden), potential landmine Occupying the Middle East boosts the recruitment efforts of Al Quiada (good line!). We need to adopt a safer (and smarter!) foreign policy by bringing our troops home. The troops seem to agree with this since according to the government (the FEC specifically), the most donations from members of the armed forces are going to…Ron Paul – and by a huge margin.
Sometimes people come in to the Caucus and they think “well, I like so-and-so but he can’t win so I’m voting for one of the front-runners”. But this isn’t a horse race. There’s no prize for you if you vote for the one who ends up winning tonight. In fact, our first-in-the-nation role here in Iowa isn’t to select the ultimate winner. Our role is to narrow the field, and tell the rest of the nation who we think they should be paying attention to. After tonight I’m sure there will be attention paid to the front-runners. We have a unique opportunity here tonight to tell the rest of America that Ron Paul’s message of simply following the constitution and limiting federal government is something they should give a listen to. So please join me in voting for Ron Paul. (Great ending paragraph)
