Right now in Des Moines

Good speech. If I had to cut, I'd cut this.

***
Sometimes people come in to the Caucus and they think “well, I like so-and-so but he can’t win so I’m voting for one of the front-runners”. But this isn’t a horse race. There’s no prize for you if you vote for the one who ends up winning tonight. In fact, our first-in-the-nation role here in Iowa isn’t to select the ultimate winner. Our role is to narrow the field, and tell the rest of the nation who we think they should be paying attention to. After tonight I’m sure there will be attention paid to the front-runners.
****

I think it may insinuate you don't think Ron Paul will be a front runner.

agreed

Also, most people have no clue who von Mises was, and the name will just leav 'em scratching their heads.

I'd suggest saying something instead like, "While the democrats have studied Marx all their life, Ron Paul has studied the Constitution and the Founding Fathers..."

But it sounds good overall! Knock 'em dead.

Iowa Republicans are strongly against illegal immigration and I would definately emphasize Ron's stance against birthright citizenship and being against welfare for illegal aliens. It's a great speech. Good Luck. Please speak from your heart and look people in their eyes.

I just got off the phone with my friend. He was leaving work from downtown Des Moines and I heard people shouting Ron Paul and honking their horns. Someone drove by in a "Ron Paul Mobile" - had Ron Paul's name plastered all over it. It sounded like a pretty chaotic scene.

On the south side of Des Moines, as the ball dropped on the first, my friend walks in with a nice color Ron Paul ad. He said it was on his car. I found one on mine too. Someone was actually out putting these things on people's car's in the middle of the night.

Sounds awesome and thanks for the update!

I'd take some of the on the ground support with a grain of salt though. There are a lot of people rallying in the state for Paul that are actually from out of state and they can't actually vote. Remember we saw the same thing during the straw poll, we had the most people on the ground and the biggest crowd but many of them didn't vote because they weren't residents.

Of course support on the ground can still influence support at the polls so that's a good thing.

That doesn't mean I don't expect a strong turnout today but it's really hard to tell just based on people in the streets.

Typo:
...the Democrats have studied Marx all their life...

"life" should be changed to "lives"

You might not have time to do this, but throwing in these two points might get you a lot of the older Republicans.

1. "Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country."--Ronald Reagan

2. Barry Goldwater Jr has said he is voting for Ron Paul and encourages others to do the same.

Excellent, with excellent comments too!

Hope I'm not too late to wish you good luck!!

Nice, I like that its already almost bulletpointed. I would talk to the points.

On the anti war thing I would try to weed out using Bin laden as justification. Simply state that The US would do much better with closed boarders and a mor humble foreign policy. Cite that Bush talked about a humble foreign policy. RP advocated going for the terrorist and not occupying foreign countries because he knew the experiences that Regan had with the Marines in Beirut and how irrational the entire region was. A new Ron Paul foriegn policy would increased goodwill from a new foreign policy would stamp out future terrorism for generations to come.

Lead into how the current road will lead to the collapse of the dollar and only more resentment and more terrorism. Since your so young talk about how pop culture figures are supporting the Euro now and world no longer has confidence in the dollar.

Good luck

Great speech.

I also agree the Middle East is a touchy subject. People cling to Rudy because they think he'll save them....I don't know why...But we need people to understand that Ron Paul believes in a STRONG DEFENSE. Bring the troops home and PROTECT OUR OWN BORDERS, NOT some borders in a foreign land.

I think that's a logical argument. Somewhere STRONG DEFENSE is important because all the fear mongering, terrorism is I think the 2nd or 3rd most important issue for the Republican base.

This is the speech I'm giving so far. It seems to be around 4-5 minutes and needs to be 2-3 minutes so I'm trying to figure out how to cut it down now...

...

Our national debt is now over $9 trillion and as our government keeps borrowing and printing more money, the value of our dollars keeps going down, making everything more expensive. Dr. Paul will save us trillions of dollars by bringing our troops home to keep America safe. We won the war. He’s the only one who’s committed to keeping our priceless troops out of nation-building and policing actions that we can’t even afford and have to beg China to lend us money for.

....

9 trillion? more like 50 trillion! that includes the robbery of the social security fund -- probably best not to mention the 50 trillion, but might mention something about how it's bigger than they admit to!

The terrorists don’t come and kill us because of women’s rights or because we have more money than they do. The prime motivation is occupation. We had set up permanent bases in Saudi Arabia before 9/11. Bin Laden seemed to think we we’re trying to take over the Middle East. In fact, this is why he declared war on us. The reason why I believe this is because that is exactly what he said. It really doesn’t get any more clear cut than that. Occupying the Middle East boosts the recruitment efforts of Al Quiada. We need to adopt a safer foreign policy by bringing our troops home. The troops seem to agree with this since according to the government, the most donations from members of the armed forces are going to…Ron Paul – and by a huge margin.

I like it a lot. Just a few quick notes here.

AQ used the bases in SA as part of his justification, and recruitment tool. He was motivated most by our first Gulf War. He wants an Islamic Caliphate, and he needs to muster the Middle Eastern masses against a common enemy to get that. A large foreign military building nations provides that common enemy.

Just a note, I don't know how you would incorporate that, but just giving you some info (assuming you weren't already aware, which you may very well be :) )

Do you have to answer questions following your speech?

The democrats unwittingly think they can win in 2008. They know that 70% of the American public is against the war and they are counting on us to elect a pro-war candidate so that the people have no other option. But despite what they think, the republicans will win in 2008, because the GOP has a secret weapon and that secret weapon is Ron Paul.

While the democrats have studied Marx all their life, Ron Paul has studied Ludwig Von Mises and free market economics is his intellectual passion. If you've watched him carefully you've seen him thoroughly destroy any notion that socialism actually helps the poor and every other ridiculous argument for following the Communist Manifesto rather the United States constitution.

Ron Paul is a Christian. He’s a veteran. He’s a pro-life doctor who has himself delivered over 4,000 babies. He’ll secure our borders and end the government giveaways that encourage people to come here illegally in the first place.

He is the only person in congress with a perfect record, going back decades of always following the constitution. Ron Paul has never, voted for a tax increase, not even one time in the 10 terms he's been in congress. He has never voted for an unbalanced budget or a raise in congressional pay - actually he returns a portion of his budget to the treasury every year.

His philosophy extends into his personal life and profession as well. Back when he was a doctor, he would refuse to take medicare from his patients, instead, he would treat them for free out of his own pocket. He refuses to take the lucrative congressional pension program. He refused for his children take government loans for college, he found a way to pay for them himself instead. He is so dedicated to his philosophy that he even named his son Rand Paul after Ayn Rand.

It’s not a matter of whether we want to continue the war or not, it is a matter of whether we end it now, deliberately or have it end later because of a failing economy. The terrorists could never hope to defeat our military but they will destroy our economy if we continue down the route we are taking.

So please join me in voting for Ron Paul.

well done thou good and faithful servant...

consider adding "most support from active military", 700 bases in 130 countries like the other poster said, our record-breaking fundraising grassroots, and maybe just maybe end it with a couple shots towards huck and mitt lol. scandals, flip flopping, people voting for "personality traits" other than policy, put pressure on those voters who don't know anything other than what the media tells them, make them feel voting for anyone other than our good doctor is a disappointment. ron paul stands for our constitution, let them know brotha.

Suggestion: most people don't know Ludwig von Mises.
I suggest you change
"has studied Ludwig von Mises and free markets is his intellectual passion."
to
"has passionately studied free market economics."

Yea thats good. We could have avoided the whole 9/11 tragedy if we just kept better tabs on our student visas. but instead of fixing that system they decided to fix the middle east.

Amazing! The only thing I saw that is missing is that Ron Paul is the only candidate with a plan to fund Social Security and Medicare for those that are dependent on them.

I like it, but as a former Copywriter, I couldn't resist attempting a redraft:

The democrats mistakenly believe they can win in 2008. With 70% of the American public against the war, they're expecting us to elect a pro-war candidate. But the Republicans have a secret weapon in Ron Paul - the only GOP candidate that can beat Hillary.

While the democrats have studied Marx all their life, Ron Paul has studied Ludwig Von Mises... Free market economics is his intellectual passion. If you've watched him carefully you've seen him thoroughly destroy any notion that socialism actually helps the poor and every other ridiculous argument for following the Communist Manifesto rather the United States constitution.

He is the only person in congress with a decades long, perfect constitutional record. Ron Paul has never voted for a tax increase, not even once in his 10 terms of congress.

Instead of accepting government loans for his childrens college education, he found a way to pay for them himself. He is so dedicated to his philosophy that he even named his son Rand Paul after Ayn Rand.

It’s not a matter of whether we want to continue the war or not, it is a matter of whether we end it now, deliberately, or have it end later because of a failing economy. Will we hand the terrorists a victory by continuing down this road and destroying our own economy?

The terrorists don’t come and kill us because "they hate our freedom". Their prime motivation is occupation. We set up permanent bases in Saudi Arabia before 9/11. Bin Laden saw this as an attempt to take over the Middle East. Occupying the Middle East only reinforces that belief - boosting the recruitment efforts of Al Qaeda. We need to adopt a smarter foreign policy by bringing our troops home. The troops understand this, since the most donations from members of the armed forces are going to…Ron Paul – and by a huge margin.

Sometimes people come in to the Caucus and they think “well, I like so-and-so but he can’t win so I’m voting for one of the front-runners”. But this isn’t a horse race.
