Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North Of Richmond
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqSA-SY5Hro

I've been selling my soul
Working all day
Overtime hours
For bullshit pay
So I can sit out here and waste my life away
Drag back home and drown my troubles away

It's a damn shame
What the world's gotten to
For people like me and people like you
Wish I could just wake up and it not be true
But it is, oh, it is
Living in the new world
With an old soul
These rich men north of Richmond
Lord knows they all just want to have total control
Wanna know what you think
Wanna know what you do
And they don't think you know, but I know that you do
Cause your dollar ain't shit, and it's taxed to no end
'Cause of rich men north of Richmond

I wish politicians would look out for miners
And not just minors on an island somewhere
Lord, we got folks in the street, ain't got nothing to eat
And the obese milking welfare
Well God, if you're 5 foot 3 and you're 300 pounds
Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds
Young men are putting themselves six feet in the ground
'Cause all this damn country does is keep on kicking them down

Lord, it's a damn shame
What the world's gotten to
For people like me and people like you
Wish I could just wake up and it not be true
But it is, oh, it is
Living in the new world
With an old soul
These rich men north of Richmond
Lord knows they all just want to have total control
Wanna know what you think
Wanna know what you do

A Virginia factory worker has become an overnight sensation after a video of him performing a soulful rendition of his blue-collar anthem went viral.

Oliver Anthony, a singer who lives in Farmville, is proving to be a hit with fans after his song 'Rich Men North of Richmond' was shared online.

The clip shows Anthony emotionally belting out each out word of his 'bone-chilling' song while strumming his guitar.

Lyrics include: 'Lord, it's a damn shame / What the world's gotten to / For people like me and people like you / Wish I could just wake up and it not be true / But it is, oh, it is.'

With his dog by his side, he continues: 'Living in the new world / With an old soul / These rich men north of Richmond / Lord knows they all just want to have total control'.

The video has been watched more than 1.5 million times in just three days on radiowv's YouTube channel.

Thousands of viewers took to the comments section to heap praise on the musician and his ability to convey emotion through his lyrics.

'I’m a 39-year-old Iraq vet and construction worker, struggling like a dog to take care of two kids and keep a farm going when I’m not working 11 hour days,' one new fan shared.

'This hit so hard today I had to stop my old Peterbilt and tear up. Preach brother.'

'This song touched me deep to my soul and I can’t wait to hear more,' another applauded.

'Absolutely outstanding,' someone else said.

' I haven't heard a bone-chilling original song in what seems like decades. You speak for millions of us,' one admired.

'So Awesome! You're singing it with truth and soul, telling it like it is! Man, this is what America needs. It makes me feel like we have our voice back. Keep bringing it,' another said.

Among the reactions, one man, Jason Howerton, claimed to have spoken with Anthony about his passion for music.

He shared that Oliver had previously been struggling with his mental health and drinking to cope with his pain.

'In depths of despair, just about a month ago, Oliver got to his knees and broke down in tears.'

He decided to get sober and around 30 days later his luck turned around when he was asked to record 'Rich Men North of Richmond' for a YouTube.

With the video now viral, Howerton says there are plans in the work for Oliver to record his first album.

His music has now touched many, including that of TV host Laura Ingraham.

'Haunting sound and commentary on what's happened to America's working class,' she posted to Twitter.

Following thousands of tags and mentions, Oliver took to his Facebook page to thank everyone for their support.

'I'm so thankful for the support my music has gotten so far,' he wrote.

'I'm working on getting gigs scheduled and will post a calendar when it's available.'

People continued to voice their support, encouraging him to keep going and share his 'incredible' talent with the world.

'The passion in your eyes! Totally blown away by this song and the artist. Can’t wait to see you on the big stage one day.'

The off-the-grid farmer has been regularly sharing music on his YouTube channel for past five months.

He lives with his three dogs on a plot of land which he hopes to turn into a farm to raise livestock.

Anthony credits one of his biggest influences as Hank Williams Jr.

Fans can listen to his music on Apple Music, Spotify and Pandora.

Right-Wing Influencers Just Found Their Favorite New Country Song
In “Rich Men North of Richmond,” a singing farmer in Virginia blasts high taxes and obese people on welfare, and even appears to allude to Jeffrey Epstein

Right-wing influencers are losing their minds over a new country song that just appeared on streaming services today. “Rich Men North of Richmond” is a passionate screed against the state of the country sung by Oliver Anthony, who identifies as a farmer living off the grid with his three dogs in Farmville, Virginia. In a video Anthony posted to YouTube earlier this month, he says he started writing songs in 2021 after he “wasted a lot of nights getting high and getting drunk.”

Raw, solo songs with titles like “I’ve Got to Get Sober” and “Ain’t Gotta Dollar” helped cultivate a small following, but it was the recently released performance video of “Rich Men North of Richmond” — in which the red-bearded Anthony performs the song on a resonator guitar in a field with a deer blind behind him — that caught the attention of conservative personalities like country singer John Rich and commentators Dan Bongino and Matt Walsh. “The main reason this song resonates with so many people isn’t political. It’s because the song is raw and authentic. We are suffocated by artificiality,” tweeted Walsh, vowing to promote any album Anthony releases on “all of my platforms.”

A look at the lyrics, however, may suggest another reason why “Rich Men North of Richmond” is appealing to right-wing influencers. Anthony rails against high taxes and the value of the dollar, but also wades into some Reagan-era talking points about welfare.

“Lord, we got folks in the street, ain’t got nothing to eat/and the obese milking welfare,” he sings. “Well God, if you’re 5 foot 3 and you’re 300 pounds/taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds.”

The real head-turner though is an apparent allusion to Jeffrey Epstein’s Caribbean island, where the billionaire and convicted sex offender allegedly introduced underage girls to powerful associates: “I wish politicians would look out for miners/and not just minors on an island somewhere.”

In his straight-to-camera introduction video, Anthony, who according to a post on YouTube cites Hank Williams Jr., no stranger to political songs, as his biggest influence, says he sits “pretty dead center down the aisle on politics and always have,” and that “it seems like both sides serve the same master — and that master is not someone of any good to the people of this country.”

He also talks about “human trafficking,” which he admits is alluded to in the lyrics “Rich Men North of Richmond.” “One of the worst things a human being can do is take advantage of a child,” he says in the video. “I think I drew the line on being quiet when I started to see that becoming normalized. And I’ll leave that at that.”

One conservative influencer compared “Rich Men North of Richmond” to Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town.” “The 2 most viral country songs of the last month are: Jason Aldean’s ‘Try that in a Small Town’ Oliver Anthony’s ‘Rich Men North of Richmond,” the account DC Draino tweeted. “You might notice a theme there… People are starved for music that speaks to them about today’s problems.”

Anthony, meanwhile, sings that he’s simply just one of many trying to navigate a complicated 21st century: “Lord, it’s a damn shame/what the world’s gotten to/for people like me and people like you.”

This song has reached out and touched everyone. This is an incredible video.

Upon seeing the quoted tweet, I was confused because it was a reply to another tweet by Caitlin Johnstone which should also have appeared in the embed (as it did when I first posted it).

It turns out she deleted her tweet, but I found the following on her feed:

Here is an image of the original tweet (the one Matt Orfalea replied to):

And here are the other "screenshots for posterity" she referenced (for which I assume the original tweets have also been deleted):

I like Caitlin for her takes on US imperialism, but she's hopelessly mired in the left/right paradigm that evaporated several years ago now. She's talking about things that aren't relevant in 2023.

[h=1]Fake Man South of Richmond[/h]Are they actually faking the non-ticket takers now?
Promoted algorithm boosted “based” red beard hillbilly song guy was faking his accent and says diversity is our strength.
Never forget that it’s strategic doctrine for a certain group to always seek to control the opposition. And it’s also customary for that controlled opposition to use apparent euphemisms in the place of direct and more commonly-used labels. Hence “great architect” and “rich men north of Richmond” and so forth.
Now, I don’t have an opinion on whatever the guy’s name is because a) I don’t listen to country music, b) I purposefully avoid whatever the latest conservative enthusiasm is because it’s usually stupid, insipid, or fake, and c) absolutely nothing is going to save the United States, not a politician, not a law, and definitely not a singer. Not even the Second Coming will save a state that is no longer a nation.
Anyhow, it appears that Big Bear continues to bat 1.000. The lesson, as always, is this: everything viral is manufactured. Everything. Nothing goes viral in the mainstream without preparation, authorization, and approval.
From SG: Will you retards learn from this or will you ONCE AGAIN fall for the next obvious ticket taker that says some mildly true things? I’m gonna guess the second thing.
UPDATE: Big Bear explains in more detail.
The #1 way the (((rich men north of Richmond))) undercut the wages of the people Oliver Anthony is impersonating is mass migration.
The fact he said America is a melting pot and “diversity is our strength” means he’s fake. And by fake I mean he’s an ad campaign. An actor. Not authentic. Kind of like Mickey Mouse at Disney.
It isn’t “white supremacy” that makes the demographic hes impersonating hate migrants, it’s the fact the migrants destroy their ability to make a living.
The songs first line is “I’ve been selling my soul.” If you people don’t get better at recognizing this stuff, according to their religion they have a right and duty to turn you into cattle and cull you if they want.
No one who’s ever chanted “build the wall” would ever say “diversity is our strength.” It’s physically not possible

He's a normy who represents classic American values - which includes a combination of diversity and meritocracy. Not a fraud.

The promotion and the fake accent say different.

My friend from Boston talks different when he's in Boston..

Have you heard the song? Listened to the lyrics? What problem do you have with it?

Healthy skepticism is good.. but this is why we lose. We are doing exactly what the left has been doing the last few years that has decimated their ranks, when they eat themselves.

"Hmmm, I'm pro-trans but maybe we shouldn't have drag queen performances for kids.."

"YOU RIGHT WING TRUMP SUPPORTING NAZI!!!"

That's called "dialect code-switching" (and apparently, it means your friend is a tool of Da Joos - sorry about that).

However, in Anthony's case, it just seems to be the exaggerated twang typical to the genre & style of the song.

It's beyond me how anyone can seriously think the fact that he doesn't talk like he sings is some kind of revealing revelation - but I guess where there's a will to find something nefarious to bitch about (so you can pretend to be more clever than everyone else), there's always a way.

Yet another thing that no one but sour-souled witch-hunters have any business being even mildly surprised (let alone upset) about:

In his straight-to-camera introduction video, Anthony [...] says he sits “pretty dead center down the aisle on politics and always have,” and that “it seems like both sides serve the same master — and that master is not someone of any good to the people of this country.”

The "ZOMG!1!! He's a racist-fascist right-wing tool!" people and the "ZOMG!1!! He's a controlled-oppo psyop plant!" people deserve each other.

I'm with dannno and Occam's Banana on this.

The reason his song has hit such a nerve is because it is the cognitive dissonance of millions of Americans set to music.

Being a "normy" he actually entered adulthood believing all the bilge that he had been taught since a child: "work hard and pull yourself up by the bootstraps" and "vote in your democracy to change what needs changing" and "diversity is our strength" and so on.

Now, suddenly, things in the real world of ongoing Marxist revolution are not at all what they seemed to be.

Or what they were told it would be.

At the same time, these are valid issues.

I could be wrong of course, singers, like actors, play a role, and it's always difficult to discern if they are playing a role or speaking, acting or singing from the heart.

I don't think this fellow is fake, however, just disillusioned.

I wish "the right" would move away from framing the illegal immigrant invasion opposition as simply being based on jobs or economic considerations.

This about fundamentally changing what the nation is from what it was, by allowing in an unwholesome flood of wretched refuse from around the globe, and I have every right to speak out and oppose that.

Especially when you consider that the spokesmen of the "New Regime" have made it clear that once they have consolidated their power and changed my homeland into something ugly, broken, perverse and foreign, they plan to exterminate me and my posterity.
