RevPAC "Compassion" ad to air 3x during ABC-WMUR NH debate Saturday!

Question I need answered immediately: I can possibly cut out mention of the still born and add in that RP said he would take care of the bill. Is this needed?

Tough choice. I say do it.

Take a poll? Difficult choice. I say keep the still born part and exchange where he never got a bill from the hospital to where he said RP would take care of the Bill. Shows more compassion on RP than say the hospital.

Protip: this ad not only targets the newsletters, minorities, but targets a segment of voters that we've been lacking: Women.

Folks we decided to keep the edit as is. Seeing James say they lost the stillborn is just too powerful a moment to cut out. That is literally the emotion hook of the ad.

ok.

you guys are the pros.

must be difficult to work with all these anonymous amateurs shouting out random tips!

This is the first thing I thought of when i saw it... the part where he says "As far as the bill, he said he would take care of everything" part was the most touching part of the full ad.

My vote is to change it.

It may be powerful, but is it powerful in benefit to Paul? It seems like a powerful neutral comment, but this is suppose to be a political ad.

Drop the part "did not receive a bill from the hospital and add As far as the bill he said he would take care of everything. Either way hopefully it will get a good response in NH.

Chris, if you add the "he said as far as the bill, he would take care of everything, which he did", you can get rid of the "i never got a bill from the hospital or anything", which becomes redundant.

Edit:
Drop the part "did not receive a bill from the hospital and add As far as the bill he said he would take care of everything. Either way hopefully it will get a good response in NH.

Looks like someone beat me to it!

I agree with this.

This. Chris, I think the sentiment will overwhelmingly be to add the "as far as the bill, he said he would take care of everything" part, and remove the part where he didn't get a bill from the hospital. That doesn't imply that Ron Paul paid for it. We want to focus on Ron Paul's generosity, and the fact that he had a stillborn doesn't really add to that.

If it doesn't fit, I can speed up the audio for you without changing the pitch / tone of his voice.

Yes has the best of both worlds, keeping the still born part and adding RP was compassionate to take care of everything.

Working on this possibility at this moment. Very very tight in there but I think I can get it to work.

hmm...

true. in the orginal compassion thread another poster discussed how the "stillborn" bit was a negative.

i did not have the impression...but i can see how others could.

it does jump somewhat abruptly from 'still born baby boy' to 'i never got a bill from the hospital or anything' - always wondered if there was anything said in between those two statements that could be used as a sort of empathetic bridge (e.g. "still born baby boy...bridge...i never got a bill...").

Or maybe leave the still born out as others are suggesting?

Right on - did he say anything that could soften the transition from 'still born' to 'bill'?

Jumping immediately from death to brass tacks sort of undermines the emotional hook created a second earlier. It's borderline cold.

The "bill" part, as it is, doesn't really imply that Ron Paul picked up the cost. This is the most compassionate part of the entire story, and they left it out.

Not any more, it's back in :)
