Reuters: Ron Paul surges to 2nd w/ GOP voters NATIONALLY with 21%, w/in striking distance

Although the article is positive, the margin of error among Republicans is 4.9%, as was pointed out. Statistically, there is no difference between Paul, Santorum, and Gingrich according to this poll.

Not to rain on the parade, but it is important to note this. Technically, it's a three way tie for second. Still, it's nice to see Paul on top, if only within the margin of error. I just hope we get a little reporting on this before the caucuses commence - it could swing a lot of votes!

I'm not sure why there's such a big difference between this poll and the Gallup poll, if Ron's 21% was only from Republicans.

What difference does this poll make when most of the voters they polled were Democrats and independents? Most states only allow registered Republicans to vote in primaries.

Please, read my latest thread or the multiple posts in THIS thread explaining it.

The poll included Dems because it was the makeup of the general electorate -- BECAUSE THEY POLLED OBAMA'S APPROVAL RATINGS.

The national poll for Republican candidates only included Republicans and some independents.

Even still this poll breaks like 13 all-time Ron Paul records

(surging)~

Is it possible the lack of voter-turnout resulting in Romney's recent state wins has galvanized more opposition to him? Are early wins actually a detriment in this race?

Yep, and that there is both an advantage he has, yet a disadvantage at the same time that doesn't affect the other 3 candidates much. Polls like this don't do him any justice in states like FL. Great to see him rising up though, nonetheless. It's all about perception to the public, never forget that.

This poll only included Dems to poll Obama's approval ratings. The national poll of Republican candidates was of Republicans and some independents.

Yeah, I see that now. I didn't get my post edited before it was quoted.

Don't divert too much attention to this from MN efforts. Time is of the essence in MN

This will raise enthusiasm and it's good for people in the caucus states to know about.

Mention this poll and the fact that Ron surged in your caucus speech.

Any idea how long Gallup's tracking period is?

Don't get me wrong, I'm REALLY happy to see Ron Paul in 2nd at 21, I just don't want to be let down if it's a fluke and he really isn't that high.

It isn't a matter of 'flukes' they are both national polling organizations and RCP will average results of a few of them.
