Restore America Plan Just Released!

I just read the plan.

No where in the plan does it call for the income tax to be abolished, phased out, or even reduced by 1%.

This is a nightmare!

Please tell me this is not happening!

It's happening. And it's perfectly OK too. This is a very sensible and realistic plan for getting the United States back on track financially. I'm sure that if Ron is lucky enough to get 2 terms in office than the income tax will be addressed.

well there goes everyone i've converted over the income tax.

this feels like the controlled version of rp.

This is not an end state, it is a viable economic plan to balance the budget in the first term. You cannot phase out the income tax without even larger spending cuts, it's phases. I expect this to be 1 of the main questions though and I expect he will have an answer.

Lol

>Naive people that think you can stroll into the Oval Office and lay the banhammer down on the IRS just like that

"On day one of my presidency, I will shut down the government entirely!"

Goodness people. The statists took 100 years to get us into this mess, do you think we're going to get out in 1?

No he doesn't address the income tax in a whole term. If he isn't a 2-termer then we get nothing done with the income tax.

Angry.

Opting out of Social Security would immediately reduce my income tax. Don't I understand that correctly? If I opt out, I don't need to pay into it. Cha-ching, my income immediately goes up. Not to mention I save my employer money because don't they contribute as well?

The funny part is, I am with the "oh no, income tax not removed" crowd philosophically. Most of America will read this and think how far it goes when I read it and see how much more is left to do. That just goes to show you how easy it truly is to CUT ONE TRILLION DOLLARS!

Forest and trees folks, let's not lose focus.

Another bright side to this budget plan is it should tone down the idea that Ron Paul is "too radical" to win the presidency. I like this approach, much more moderate than he could have gone.

Lol

>RP apologists
I don't understand how anyone could think you could walk in and just do it so smoothly. I'm sure RP has a plan to get rid of the income tax. I'm just frustrated because people are already getting ready to jump ship over this.

Please tell me that the plan addresses the income tax!

The income tax is only addressed to the extent that the rates will not be changing any time soon. They are scheduled to go back up in 2013 which would be devastating to many middle income families and stifle business investments especially among the smaller companies.

This plan shows that RP is making the switch from being the philospher to the leader. He could spend thirty years voting no on ever bill and nothing would change, but being president will require an actionable plan that he has full intentions of getting passed in congress. He cannot just present a plan he knows will never pass congress or his presidency will be useless,

you know what I really like about this? in terms of healthcare it has been hard for me to rationalize in my head just how we were going to afford as a nation the changes to our medicare system that are so desperately needed. The costs are enormous but the benefit is so necessary. Yeah, i see the waste but I know that by and large those folks who get my care truly would receive no care if it had not been for medicare...

So here comes this plan. FREEZES medicaid spending, and cuts back medicare to 2006 level with modest increase annually. Cumulative costs of the healthcare system are not going to diminish; and in reality we haven't seen a real increase in medicare's payouts in about 10 years. How can Ron Paul justify this FREEZE? :)

This is important from an industry perspective and needs to be the talking point used in discussion on this issue: He does from the money end. By restoring a competitive dollar to the market place, we strengthen it's value. In terms of real dollars under the Ron Paul plan we see that the "cost" of things doesn't go up, the value of the dollar does, meaning less real dollars are needed to pay for the same expenditures. It's powerful. Nothing really changes, all benefits remain the same we just have a stronger dollar to make our purchasing decisions with. LOVE IT! Hope you do to.

and all i will say is he sold out a bit.

i'll still campaign for the dude but i can't even argue the same points anymore, i guess i'm a libertarian first at heart.

"No compromises"

I believe that compromising would be proclaiming he wouldn't change the current tax system. Not doing it in his first year doesn't mean it won't be done. And, quite frankly, if you want any of the good that is RP in the Oval Office, compromising will have to occur. I appreciate RP standing strong in his beliefs, but you DO have to compromise. But, what do I know? I'm an independent, not a libertarian. As much as I hate the income tax, I'm willing to pay it. It's just not on the top of my priority list. Ending the fed, bringing the troops home and elimination of the DOE and EPA are much more important to me. That's just me.

let them jump because for every one of the extreme voters he loses he will gain 5. RP has not changed his beliiefs but has put out what he believes can be an actionable plan.
