Republican Whip Count for Boehner Bill - thehill.com, as of 11:54 a.m. est today

Look at all of the GOPers who were so easily swayed. And for those of you thinking, "well, at least we kept it close." Every one of these big bills has been close, but we've lost every single time. Medicare Part D was only passed by 5 votes. The Bailout bill failed the first time, was passed the second time after significant arm twisting. Health care bill passed by a couple of votes.

It doesn't matter how close you are to winning if you always lose. The debt ceiling will be raised, but it will be "close." Losing is losing.

EDIT: This bill looks like it will pass easily.

So, do yall think the whole "arm twisting" thing is just a meeting involving the Speaker, the Rep and a check written for a large amount?

I give them more credit than that. I believe it is promises to fill future bills full of pork for pet projects peppered with some threats of being Primaried and having all monetary support ceased. Oh, I forgot the scare tactics the bailout made famous. :collins:

EDIT: That was my First Collins smiley. I will remember this day forever.

why are there still 28 undecideds. Make a damn statement.

If they know they're taking an unpopular position, it is easier to stay out of the spotlight and avoid making any kind of announcements. It's a good political trick, especially if the person is an electorally vulnerable Republican Freshman.

I didn't see my congressman Gregg Harper. I emailed him and asked him not to vote for this.

only 14 repubs not voting as of this minute. where are the updates to thehilll site?
