Republican Party in total Chaos/Free-fall

In an interesting turn of events it seems the far-right and libertarian leaning Republicans in VT are beginning to organize a second "Take Back Vermont" campaign independent of the mainline GOP and Ron Paul Republicans.

The first "Take Back Vermont" campaign was spurred over the civil union controversy and quckly gained momentum among native Vermonters. However, they failed to gain long term traction in my opinion because that became the main issue. The point that could have gained much more widespread support-- a return to conservative ideals, smaller government and rejection of activist judicial legislation-- was overshadowed by politically incorrect position on gay rights.

Take Back Vermont in 2000

Take Back Vermont in 2006

The next couple of years are going to be very interesting in Vermont.

Gingrich is fake.

Oh, he's a real enough threat to real conservatism.

If you libertarian-minded types want to know if he can be depended upon, ask some evangelicals how quickly he learned to say things they wanted to hear--and how few of his promises to them he subsequently kept.

The guy's an opportunistic crook.

Ironically, I think Obama will probably keep us in Iraq for a long time as well. He has said recently he would defer the the generals on the ground.

I could see a backlash with the anti war left revolting against the democrats in 2010.
Even Hillary said we could not leave before 2013. They are building all those base where our guys will be stationed to police the mid east.

Obama will not stop this. But he will send some of those poor folks to Afghanistan.

Article says what I fear, Sarah Palin taking leadership of the party and receiving the nomination in 2012. Enough with Sarah Palin already. She sold out by being on McCain's ticket and parrotting his big government neocon rhetoric.

The voters have clearly spoken. The Republican party and neoconservatism is dead. It is now time for us real Conservatives to begin taking back the party. We can allow no room at the table for these failed neocons.

btw - the big problem for us is we do not have a news outlet like the libs have MSNBC and Foxnews that is dominated by these failed neocons like Newt Gingrich, Karal Rove and their supporters like Sean Hannity.

I think Gingrich and Barr would get along together. They both seem very similar to me (grandstanding, self-serving, power hungry, lacking principle).

The Contract with America was such a smokescreen. I am almsot suprised Barr has not offered "A Second Contract with America".

Is there not opportunity in a solidly defeated, undermined, vacated Republican party for liberty-minded people to begin to fill the void and change the direction of the party? Even in a weakened state, Republicans still enjoy access to the system that third-parties can only dream of. Best case, a reinvented Republican party represents an expedient vehicle to visibility and political relevance. Is this not Dr. Paul's approach? Is it attainable?

I am voting against every Republican on the ballot, regardless of who opposes them.
