Renting a house in Iowa for a grassroots base of operations

Bump 4 status update

We are making progress! We have a few different properties we are interested in and looking into! I started two polls in order to gauge interest more effectively.

I have spoken to members of YAL and C4L / Meet-up groups in Iowa who are interested in helping. We have sent out a lot of information and more people are coming out with positive interest.

We're trying to iron out all the logistics on here too. I'm optimistic this will work!

One of the members of a Iowa C4L group told me:

Matt:

Most of our members have regular jobs and may not be able to break away for long or at all.

I imagine when the campaign revs up, we'll be getting some local students to
join.

I'll do a survey.

I am SO excited for this project to get going! As soon as you guys are up and running I'm going to do my best to get up there. I work via computer so i can set-and-forget a couple campaigns and come and help out for a week or so. Again, awesome work guys and keep us updated!!

Hey, if there's college student Iowans getting involved in this via their YAL and stuff, can anyone PM me phone numbers and/or email addresses of coordinators?

Im a college student who will be home in Alabama this summer and have ample free time and enthusiasm for Ron Paul. If there is a way for me to get to Iowa I would love to help.

I'm a college student in florida who's going...fly there? Although do it from a regional airport instead of a larger one to avoid gate-rape/tsa.

It'll be happening regardless, however we're currently lacking support to set up a proper website. We have to put first things first. We can't solicit serious donations for a base camp and buses if we don't have a legitimate website. We should ideally have a money bomb that is specific to our Iowa grassroots operation. Also, we're still debating over what to name the PAC. Liberty Action Committee / Foundation / Fund? Something else, maybe more Ron-focused?

Another model you might consider (or combine with this and do both), would be to charge rent to the volunteers who go there, and leave it up to them to raise funds on their own from other people. They could have their own chip-ins, or raise funds locally, or pay their own way, depending on their own situations. Speaking for myself, I might be more likely to donate to help send a specific volunteer I already know and trust than I would be to donate to the project generically without knowing much about the people involved.

I haven't read through the thread, so this might already have been discussed.

Awesome work!! Would you be willing to be a point man for Iowa contacts? We should find several Iowa persons willing to work within the "Board of Trustees" those in Iowa will have the best lay of the land.... in many ways.

We still need to figure out the full board, positions, and most important a house leader for 4-6 months.

I have a web address with a great name that I would be willing to donate if it actually went to use. I've been meaning to set it up myself but it's fallen behind on my to do list. www.ronpaulrepublic.com.

I need a place to stay the week of Ames, I am probably going to camp but i would be interested in staying at this house if there is room

I'm definitely interested. Not just in participating; I could contribute some cash either way, though I'd definitely look to participate, as well. And I have some connections in Iowa.

Eric, I'll PM you. Great idea.

Hello. I am in Iowa and near Des Moines and work in Des Moines downtown. My uncle is Ron Pauls former Iowa Political Director and I asked him to sign up and post on this to help out. He should be along as soon as his account is approved.

Meanwhile, I will help look for a place and offer the suggestion that it NOT be a house. You can find commercial places that you can "live in" and have more space. Houses can get trashed and noise can attract unwanted police observations and make for bad press.

Where as a RPF HQ would be amazing and in the same price. We could also help fundraise locally for it.

Yeah, forgot to mention, I think looking at commercial space is a great idea. We'd have to make sure that we wouldn't be violating any zoning laws that could get us kicked out at any given moment, but as long as it was on the up-and-up, there'd a good chance we'd get more bang for the buck.

I will call around on Monday. And post. Many I can find won't be listed on some national website. I know exactly what kind to find and where.

Sidenote:

I posted two polls, so if you didn't go vote in the Donating and Volunteering polls, please do so!

So far, we have 13 people willing to donate! And this is just RPF! There are people not on the boards supportive of the project. So we really need to find a house already and push the button! Let's begin really narrowing it down!
