Renting a house in Iowa for a grassroots base of operations

get the PAC Going, set up a chip in for the rent and lets get this thing started. we need 6,000+ votes. Every day counts!

It'll be happening regardless, however we're currently lacking support to set up a proper website. We have to put first things first. We can't solicit serious donations for a base camp and buses if we don't have a legitimate website. We should ideally have a money bomb that is specific to our Iowa grassroots operation. Also, we're still debating over what to name the PAC. Liberty Action Committee / Foundation / Fund? Something else, maybe more Ron-focused?

I like Liberty Action Fund (LAF).

Also, i'm starting to get Facebook responses from students in the Iowa area who are interested! Things seem to be coming together more swiftly now!

Why do you need a PAC? It looks to me like a bunch of like minded friends hanging out for the summer in Iowa. Do you really need a PAC for this?

Yeah maybe it would be a good idea to get the website up first to explain your mission and goals ect....then you could have a money bomb to get the funds for the house..here is another idea....how bout the PAC is set up specifically to win the Iowa straw poll? then we would know our money is going directly towards the most important event of 2011. Maybe call it the Ron Paul Iowa straw poll Pac? kinda a long name but I think there should be some kind of grassroots organization set up just for the Ames straw poll. I will donate

Who here can dedicate 20 hours a week and would possibly be interested in serving on a Grassroots Board of Trustees for the "Iowa Liberty House"

I like, Liberty Action Fund, this will allow us to use it for many other purposes, far into the future. Transparency is key

We need to set up an organization specifically for the Ames Straw poll. We need need to prioritize our efforts at the Ames straw poll. Once we win Ames we prioritize our time towards the Iowa Caucus.

I talked to my mom about this (I'm only 19) and she is supportive. It also works well with my school schedule, because my break between summer and fall terms is Aug 5-22.

The only issue for me is getting people from my area to go, because I would feel weird going alone without anyone I know. I have someone who's interested as long as she can find a sitter and get someone to go with her (same boat as me) but she seemed pretty positive overall. I'm also trying to get ahold of more people who'd be interested. I want at least one person I know to come with me.

My mom doesn't want me to go so I'm trying to do as much as I can online (i'm 18)

Just got this email:
We (I and SuperLiberty) are located in Davenport, which is part of 'The Quad
[Quint] Cities" (Davenport & Bettendorf in Iowa; Rock Island, Moline, and
East Moline in Illinois).

It's a tough call on where to locate the liberty house. Polk County (Des
Moines) contains the highest population and is centrally located in the
state.

Our Scott County (Davenport, Bettendorf, St. Ambrose University) has the
second highest population in Iowa. Augustana College, across the river in
Rock Island, IL is close by.

Other possibilities are Ames (Iowa State University), Iowa City (University
of Iowa), and Cedar Falls (University of Northern Iowa), of course with the
state universities. As I mentioned, Fairfield in Jefferson County has a big
RP base.

I think I saw a post suggesting Ankeny, which is between Ames & Des Moines,
which are 30 miles apart.

Just a suggestion:

$775 / 3br - Sick of noisy apartment living? Rent an updated farmhouse!
(South of Huxley)

------------------------------------------------------------

Newly refinished 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom farmhouse for rent. Location is off
of Hwy 69 just south of Huxley with easy access to I-35. Would be an easy
commute to Ames, Ankeny, or Des Moines. Location is close enough to town,
but with the peace and quiet of the country. Internet and cable ready.
Features to mention are a large living room, separate dining room, original
hardwood floors upstairs, and deck that would be great for company. Plenty
of space for kids to run. Deposit is one month's rent ($775.00).

If you're interested, have any questions, or would like to see more pictures
please reply via email.

I think a big cheap farmhouse between Ames and des moines could be good if the volunteers always had enough cars to drive to Ames or DES moines. The one highwayman just posted looks good except it's only got one bathroom.

I don't drive, but I'm thinking I'd like to come. I figure I can just ride with someone who does have a car and do teamwork campaigning, right? So my lack of a license wouldn't be too bad of a hindrance if it's somewhere that's driving distance?

Is there anyone on here planning to go to Iowa in early-mid August who's from the northern-central Florida area?

Despite my earlier post I don't think it would be a hindrance. There would always be other volunteers there with cars, i would think.

We should set up some car pools from different locations once we get going too!

Just recieved this from a YAL member:

Your efforts actually came up at dinner tonight with my Austrian Econ/YAL group, haha. You've been reaching quite a few people. By the way, the house ought to be located in Des Moines, Ankeny, or Polk City. These cities are all close together, and are all near Ames (where the straw poll is). Des Moines and Polk City are both generally cheaper than Ankeny, fyi.
