Renting a house in Iowa for a grassroots base of operations

3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms must be at least ok size. And its just about the only one I could find on craigslist or elsewhere that will let us rent it just for those 4 months leading up to Aug 13th.

Haven't read through the last few pages, but keep in mind, we might have to accommodate a LOT of people, so lots of floorspace for sleeping bags and also a large yard for camping is a must.

Agreed. And I'm down with renting in Des Moines for sure, but depending on whether you call May 9th-Aug15th 3 months or 4, this house would cost between $3,000-4,000 to rent for the whole time, even including utilities. Considering what's at stake, it seems like a good deal. And it wouldn't prevent us from renting in Des Moines either simlutaneously or after the straw poll either.

is getting a place in ames the best idea? Yeah the straw poll is there, but it seems that would be good for like a week max. Otherwise Des Moines seems like the best option, and its only 30-40 minutes to ames, so people could drive up there anyway the week of the straw poll

@platform - Just google mapped that house.. Looks like it may not be our best option, as it does have a rather small yard. It certainly wouldn't be able to accommodate more than maybe 20-30 people.

That house that Melissa just posted actually isn't too unreasonably priced, especially with that large fenced off yard in the back. We may even be able to talk them down. The location is perfect, as it's just outside of des moines, and maybe a half hour to Ames. This is ideal, as we'd have to put in a good amount of work in both cities.

Yeah that house melissa posted looks dang good too. Two liberty houses? Has anyone posted this on DailyPaul yet to see how much interest is there?

I have 50 FRN down...

Another question about this. Who would get to stay at the house? Any willing activists or will we screen people?

I would put at least 50 down, probably more. I'm guessing we would accept anyone, but we would need experienced activists to start it off and get the ball going.

Got another email back:

Hi, Matthew:

This is a fantastic idea.

Ron PAUL won Fairfield, Jefferson County, IA largely because of the efforts
of 'Restoring the Heart of America.'

See: http://www.commonsenserevisited.com/ and its Facebook page.

There is also a strong RP presence here in Scott County (Davenport, IA)
represented by SuperLiberty (www.superliberty.com/)

During the 2008 campaign, we hosted 'The Greater Quad-City Area Ron Paul
Meetup Group, which spun-off to SuperLiberty.

We could try to hook up with these groups while we're down there!

Mike Maresco (ronpaulhawaii here) will be part of our leadership team, and is planning on being on-site for 2 months leading to the poll. One of the main advantages of having a grassroots PAC behind this is, among other things, the leadership structure it provides.
