I'm wondering who thinks it would be a good idea for us to start a chipin to rent a campground in DC over the weekend of the 21'st.

Reason being that a lot of people I know would like to come but are too cheap (or plain BROKE) to stay in a hotel.

I suspect we might even get a lot of people who don't care much about RP to come if we either rented a campground or secured some kind of an extra-cheap group rate. Hey, it's a rally, the more warm bodies we can secure the better:D

I'm just not sure if there's enough room in any single campground for all the RP people that would show up!

Anyways, I personally would much rather camp than stay in a hotel, and just think of how awesome it would be to stay at a campground with a bunch of other Ron Paul supporters!

Feedback?

I am hoping to go, but it will be extremly low budget.

OK, how about unemployed and NO money.
I will be hitching there and camping Urban Guerrilla style.

I haven't done that in a while. I'll find out if I still have "skills".

lol, I'm partially unemployed now too... the job market in Windsor, Ontario has shriveled up, died, been reincarnated as an albatross, and flown away.

All thanks, of course, to our gigantic Ford and Chrysler auto manufacturing plants laying off all their workers and moving to Mexico and China for the cheap labor.

All I can get now is stinkin' temporary work, and I was trying to save up for my pilot's license:mad: I can hardly make enough to live on, and I don't even have a car anymore. I just ride my bike everywhere.

Anyways, I could afford bus tickets to DC but probably can't stay in a hotel. So I was planning to backpack-camp, and came up with this idea in the process.

BTW, what are you referring to as "urban guerrilla" camping? Sounds like something a hobo would do. I hope I don't have to sink to that level, but if that's what it takes to stand up for freedom... that's what I'll do.

I haven't done it in a while, but I have hitched all across this country.
I may have to see if I remember how. ;)

Trailer for sale or rent
Rooms to let...fifty cents.
No phone, no pool, no pets
I ain't got no cigarettes
Ah, but..two hours of pushin' broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road.

Third boxcar, midnight train
Destination...Bangor, Maine.
Old worn out clothes and shoes,
I don't pay no union dues,
I smoke old stogies I have found
Short, but not too big around
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road.

I know every engineer on every train
All of their children, and all of their names
And every handout in every town
And every lock that ain't locked
When no one's around.

I sing,
Trailers for sale or rent
Rooms to let, fifty cents
No phone, no pool, no pets
I ain't got no cigarettes
Ah, but, two hours of pushin' broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I'm a man of means by no means

I guess when the politicians mention FREE TRADE, they mean that they are trading in our jobs and replacing it with our poverty.

I am up for it but I'm not sure how much help I can be from Ontario, Canada.

If anyone lives in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area and is familiar with the campgrounds or is willing to volunteer for a reconnaissance mission to find the most suitable (cheapest and largest) ones, please join forces with me in organizing this.

PM me or email me at:

There's nothing wrong with brainstorming and starting a ChipIn to finance the prospective campground rental, but let's wait until we have a permit for the rally before making actual reservations.

I really think we could get a LOT more supporters to show up if we did this! My family would definitely come. (we only have a tent though, no RV, that kinda shows why we can't afford a hotel:D)

Let's do this thing! Contact me ASAP if you can help!

A campground would be smart. I live in the area.

There are many attractions on the Virginia side such as Mt. Vernon, Monticello, one hundred plus wineries, etc.

Primbs, your PM folder is now full. Could you please delete some of your messages so I can continue to talk to you?

Thanks for offering your help.

I would prefer to have us try to rent an area suitable for tent camping as well as RVs, since I was hoping we could try to cater to those who are too hard up for cash to stay in a hotel. Presumably they would not be able to afford an RV.

It is also legal to camp for free as long as you do it in a secluded area. Check out this site, it has a GPS coordinate tool that allows you to find confirmed free camping spots.

Does anyone think it would be a good idea for a number of people to camp for free in an area such as this?

I still need to find someone familiar with the established campgrounds near DC, since a lot of people presumably want a little convenience and not have to go way out in the boonies:D Primbs said he lives there and knows the area, but I don't know how to contact him until he empties his PM folder unfortunately:o

Seriously now, if you live in the DC/Virginia/Maryland area please, please help me find a good, large, reasonably priced campground which can accommodate tents as well as RVs. The sooner we can make reservations the better.

Who thinks I should launch a ChipIn for this immediately? Who would be willing to donate to it or help advertise it to other supporters?

I think it's a good idea, but maybe people should make their own private reservations. A chipin for this seems weird. What if the people who chipped in don't even get a space there, you know.

Well, the idea was to get all the RP supporters who can't afford their own accommodations to come.

They would be able to stay at the campground for free on the condition that they show up at the march.

So if you told them to pay for their own reservations they would probably NOT show up at all.

I wouldn't expect a lot of the people who chipped in to be there, the fact that they have extra money to chip in means they probably CAN afford to pay for their own accommodations.

I was just throwing this out there as an idea to get more people to come to the march, since the only thing that matters is the amount of live human bodies we can get to come to DC on the 21st. We want to have the maximum amount of supporters possible there right? Whether they are rich or poor makes no difference.

Many RP supporters that I know can't afford hotels or even a campground rental, and that is the sole reason they might not come.

If you want to make an investment in the size of the march, and want the maximum amount of people possible to show up, you might want to chip in or help organize this. I'm not suggesting that you chip in so that you can stay at the campground, but that you chip in so that others with less money can afford to come to the march.

If you CAN afford to pay for your own accommodations and want the march to be a success I would encourage you not to take advantage of the "free campground offer" in order to leave space and maximize the total amount of supporters that show up.

I'm assuming you misunderstood the purpose of the campground idea.

If other supporters want to get together and reserve their own individual sites using their own money that would be just fine, but that is not the idea here.

That looks like a winner to me. Tents are $42 bucks for 2 people.... not too shabby.
If we're going to make a move on this, we should definitely make it soon (if only we would have an actual date for the march)...
The site allows you to put down a $25 REFUNDABLE deposit. That sounds good to me.

"Confirmed reservations require a deposit of $25 by check or credit card. Deposit will be refunded 100% if cancellation is received at least 48 hours prior to the planned time of arrival. We accept Discover, Visa, and Mastercard by phone."
