Remember Iowa? County Conventions Begin March 10

And, for general interests: in my Des Moines precinct, there were 2 Ron Paul supporters elected as delegates. Also 1 alternate. He won the three precincts that were at my caucus location. All great.

He knows where it is and what time it is. What else should he know besides to show up?

Other than what I mentioned, that is about it.

This is coming from me, not any official campaign directions, but as I'm new to this process I'm going with dressing nice (suit for me) laying mostly low and not being overtly a Paul supporter (though I was a precinct captain and gave a speech and it's not a secret), not chanting End the Fed, Lol, and if anyone asks just being enthusiastic about beating Obama and restoring conservative values, reducing the debt and deficit, etc. I'll be excited to be a part of the process and to go on to the state level as a delegate.

Important note as well: It's $40 payable tomorrow if you are a delegate. I'm bringing cash. If you pay later, I think it is $50. You can become an alternative (which is a good idea if you don't get nominated as a delegate, I would think) and the cool thing is I'm pretty sure an alternate is free.

Bruno, just out of curiosity, which county are you in? Are non-delegates allowed to observe?

Polk County, correct. And I'm really not sure about observers or if you have to check in.

Anyway, good luck, Bruno. I wonder if anything has changed now that AJ Spiker is where he is. Do you have any thoughts about that?

Thanks! I can only see it as a huge positive for AJ to be where he is now. Regardless of how this all shakes out, we have a strong advocate for liberty at the head of the Iowa GOP.

That's awesome! We won ours and I believe he won most of Des Moines. I can't remember the numbers, but Polk County was really close.

In our location, someone told me that the church down the street always tells people how to vote (found that interesting), and that is why there were so many for Santorum in 2nd.

Just like in 2008, traffic on RPF dies down by this stage - people get disappointed and tune out. But this is really a quite interesting phase of the campaign because the national news media doesn't comment on it. Sometimes the local papers make mention of the county conventions but they aren't too aware of the personalities involved.

The 2008 campaign revealed the dry rot in many county organizations across the country, as well as the outright fraud and hamfistedness of local chairs.

What I'm interested in is if the msm will report the new rnc delegate totals as states hold the conventions or stay with the estimated totals they already reported.

If they're on top of things, the media quoted delegate totals may get revised after district conventions. Many states allocate a few delegates there, then follow up at state convention with the rest ofthe slate.

Hope that is the case in our favor. I just got seated with my packet. It will start in a few minutes and go through the afternoon.

Made it as a delegate to districts held April 21st in Stuart, IA. Interesting comotion right now about one missing precinct person alling to suspend rules over a missing delegate in one of the precincts. It was overruled.

I made it as a delegate to Stuart too. See you there!

This time the beers are on me!

My friend just texted me and said he made it to the Iowa GOP convention as a delegate. He's in Winneshiek county.

congratulations guys. how are we looking overall going forward?

Hard to tell for me because we have 324 spots here (Polk County), and had at least double that to start. But the Paul people I know here all did move in to the district level.

I'd like to add that we have an unseasonably warm 68 degree day, people are getting restless because we have been here for seven hours, and I sacrifice this beautiful day to spend it indoors for the cause of liberty. :)

LIBERTY! (Love it when RP says it.) Congrats and how you become a state delegate, maybe if the media talks about it their faces will go

Yes, springtime weather is another thing that hurts turnout at conventions. People don't want to give up a nice weekend day to sit inside and politick. In North Carolina we usually have perfect weather in April when the district conventions are held. Turnout is often under 100 persons each.

A lot of people from Ankeny also didn't show up because the boys made it to state basketball finals held today. Alternates were used instead, thankfully there were many of them.

A number of Paul supporters getting nominated into the committees. :)
