Keys talks about her conspiracy theories

NEW YORK - There's another side to Alicia Keys: conspiracy theorist. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: "`Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. `Gangsta rap' didn't exist."

Keys, 27, said she's read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead," according to an interview in the magazine's May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.

Another of her theories: That the bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."

Keys' AK-47 jewelry came as a surprise to her mother, who is quoted as telling Blender: "She wears what? That doesn't sound like Alicia." Keys' publicist, Theola Borden, said Keys was on vacation and unavailable for comment.

Though she's known for her romantic tunes, she told Blender that she wants to write more political songs. If black leaders such as the late Black Panther Huey Newton "had the outlets our musicians have today, it'd be global. I have to figure out a way to do it myself," she said.

The multiplatinum songstress behind the hits "Fallin'" and "No One" most recently had success with her latest CD, "As I Am," which sold millions.

So we should recruit someone simply because they are a "conspiracy theorist" even if the conspiracies are about the music industry and she's a supporter of the Black Panthers?

This may be the worst idea I've ever seen posted on this forum.

I just might have to agree with you on that.

Or could it be because she's one of the most poplular recording artists in the world, she may support gun rights, has a mistrust of the establishment and can get coverage in Yahoo News very easily?

Imagine if she said something about the Federal Reserve.

She also seems to be able to sing without an electronic intonator and actually be able to play an instrument.

What would the media say, Ron Paul endorsed by Black Panter activist? Or multi-platinum grammy award winner Alicia Keys endorsed Ron Paul over Barak Obama and the others because he defends everyones rights and will end the drug war, the war in Iraq, and the Federal Reserve system.

u all should really look into the black panthers....they were not a bad group as the gov wants us to believe...i myself read alot about them...huey P bobby seal...mumia...assata shakur...george jackson....these people were great people who fought the gov and did alot for their communities that the governement was not doing...i suggest u all do some reasearch....huey P used to walk around with an AK-47 in one hand and a law book in the other....he would patrol the police to make sure they werent breaking any laws...amazing people with brass balls....i wish our young america would wake up and become aware as they were back then.....these people were only teenagers when they started this movement

This is just stupid...

Please elaborate.

Why should we not ask for Alicia Keys support and the publicity it would generate? She said she wants to make more political songs. Whatever she does will probably sell millions.

If anyone connects Ron Paul to Black Panthers through Alicia Keys they will be laughed at after all the White Supremacist trash was already used against us.

Quit calling people conspiracy theoriests. It has a negative connotation.

Anybody who listens to Alicia Keyes knows that she is a BRILLIANT artist. These quotes shows that she is conscious that something is not right with our country. She distrusts the current administrations and the media.

Just like us.

She needs to be shown the light and the true causes of our country's problems. She's ripe for the picking.

lol sorry but even recruiting Alan Keyes would make more sense

Free healthcare for all black people, people of color, and the oppressed? Free jobs, etc.? You don't have to be "white" (which I am not) to be against that, all it takes is being a believer in freedom. Alicia Keyes may be like those individuals who are so anti-Bush/republicans/free trade/etc., that they've "Fallin'" into the HillaBama socialism love-fest. The Panthers may be okay on some issues (like our Kucinich pals), but overall it reeks of racist/socialist platform to me.

There is nothing evil about "free" healthcare. Forcing someone else to pay for healthcare is the problem. There is no such thing as a "free" job either, of course.

Well ya that's the point I think he is trying to make.

People think Bush caused all of the problems, when in reality is just a puppet. The entire administration is full of neocons and neoliberals.

People like Keyes distrust Bush so much that they jump on the socialist bandwagon without researching the candidates. People are stuck in the 2 party charade.
95+% of the country is incapable of thinking out of the box.

So, because someone has crackpot beliefs we should recruit her? Is this a joke :D

I don't think she'll do much for Ron Paul's chances (nor will anyone or anything else, for that matter).
