You've painted yourself into a corner, Tones. Basically, you're saying that tyranny is just fine, as long as you get to decide what that tyranny will be like...making you no better then a full-blown Stalinist, for instance.
I understand that there are certain things that you frown upon, but you have to stop and think. Do I have the right to micro-manage other people's lives based on my own feelings of right and wrong? The answer to that is no, and the Founders understood that.
This whole drug thing is a non-issue for me, really. I detest drugs (tried marijuana once, BIG mistake), but I don't give a flying eff if others want to use them, because as long as they don't interfere with my life, it's none of my business.
As I've stated in a previous post, being Christian shouldn't have anything to do with imposing moral values on others. Salvation is a matter between you and Him. You can't force it upon others, and if you try to, I'm pretty sure He would disapprove in a big way...
