Here is a link to see how your state has voted on the Real ID Act:http://www.ncsl.org/standcomm/sctran/RealIDdb.cfm

Take time to read the summaries for each state - particularly the ones that reject it - mostly on the grounds that it is unconstitutional.
Many states reject it.

My state, SC, has rejected it. As I understand it this could cause problems as far as traveling by airplane, collecting social security, etc.

How can the country function if ALL of the states don't comply? Will it cause such a mess that compliance will be end up being the easier choice? Or perhaps this will cause some sort of uproar, uprising, ??? Will this usher in martial law?

Thoughts?

Looks like Florida is already in 98% compliance.

Mine expires in April. What to do, what to do?

NC sounds very confusing...struck Real ID language before it went up for a vote?? Then kept some things...how is that like or different than GA?

we only have a house resolution urging congress to repeal it. that's all.

I like my state's language of our non compliance measure:

Finds that the REAL ID Act is contrary and repugnant to the Constitutions of New Hampshire and the United States. Provides that New Hampshire shall not participate in any driver's license program pursuant to REAL ID nor in any national identification system that may follow.
Prohibits the department of public safety from amending any rules to comply with the goals or standards of REAL ID or any requirements adopted by AAMVA for such purposes.

Prohibits the department of public safety from expanding the motor vehicle records data it shares with other states, the federal government or other agencies, and prohibits the department from providing any data to any additional states or state or federal agencies without authorization by statute.

Idaho's is the funniest:

An appropriations bill for the Department of Health and Welfare. Section 19 appropriates $0.00 for REAL ID implementation in FY 2008.

texas is against it... but at the same time changed their license up. i guess they're trying to throw a bone to washington?

Looks like it's been brought up a bunch of times here in Communist Maryland, but the General Assembly hasn't voted on it yet.

Just a Bill

LEK, thanks for that link.

Well, in Missouri the only thing "enacted" was this.........

"Summary: Urges Congress to repeal the REAL ID Act."

That's great, but, that's not doing shit. Illinois is about 20 minutes away so was just curious, well, same thing......

"Summary: Opposes any portion of the REAL ID Act that violates the rights and liberties guaranteed under the Illinois and the U.S. Constitutions. Urges the Illinois Congressional delegation to support measures to repeal REAL ID."

The only things that are actually enacted are the "Urges", urges aren't going to cut it, just seems like the regular old political backstabbing..... "we tried real hard and did our best, but, it just didn't work out."

Look at this on the Missouri "Urging" that was Enacted....... "Approved by the House by a vote of 146 - 4 on 3/15/07" It makes them look good to urge, but it doesn't actually get nothing done.

That's one of the worst problems here, most of our Bills were from early 2007, since then nothing with any real "teeth" has happened. No Balls.

When I was a kid I used to think this kind of stuff worked..............

This is more like it.................

Damn right our state did. Have you written our legislators and Sanford for rejecting it! Always remember it goes both ways...when they do something right let them know you support their decision, when they don't do right by you, let 'em have it!!! ;)

2008

Here is a good site to see everything on a map.

http://www.realnightmare.org/news/105/

That's one thing about the "March", I'm not into specific groups pushing their agendas, but, I think some "NO REAL ID" signs would fit the Freedom March perfectly.

California, are you stupid? You need to recall every one of your representatives!

Governor had to veto this and save your asses!! SB 1162 (passed house and sen!!!)

Requires that the Department of Motor Vehicles comply with REAL ID upon receipt of full federal funding. Also includes requirements related to unique identifiers on the license including the applicant's SSN or ITIN.

What the hell is a "Hmong" ?????? Why are they so special? WHY AREN'T YOU????
AJR 37 - Urges Congress to amend the REAL ID Act to protect the rights of members of the Hmong community.

You need to show these people you are in charge! Recall all of them, start today! It only takes a small group in each area to do it!

I didn't realize this was being voted on by State - thought it was a Federal mandate and that was it. I am government policy challenged. :)

What I would realy like to know is how the Federal Gov. can claim no air travel, etc. without the RealID and yet the States say "NO". So people from SC can't travel by air?

Anybody understand how all this can/will work by May 2008?
