The first Rasmussen Reports post-primary telephone survey of Likely Connecticut Voters finds that Democrat Richard Blumenthal has slipped below the 50% mark of support this month against Republican Linda McMahon in the state’s U.S. Senate race.
Blumenthal, the state's longtime attorney general, picks up 47% of the vote, while McMahon earns 40%. Five percent (5%) prefer some other candidate, and seven percent (7%) remain undecided.
Support for McMahon is unchanged from last month, despite her GOP Primary win on Tuesday. Blumenthal’s support is down six points since then. In June, Blumenthal held a 56% to 33% lead over McMahon

Blumenthal now earns 68% support from Democrats in the state, while 72% of Republicans favor McMahon. Voters not affiliated with either major political party are almost evenly divided between the two.
Forty-seven percent (47%) of Connecticut voters see Blumenthal as being politically liberal, while another 21% say he is a moderate. Eighteen percent (18%) believe Blumenthal is conservative.
Fifty-nine percent (59%) view McMahon as a conservative, while 17% see her as moderate. Just 10% think she's a liberal.
Most Connecticut voters (55%) believe Blumenthal’s views are mainstream, while nearly the same number (52%) say that of McMahon’s. Twenty-nine percent (29%) say Blumenthal’s views are extreme, and slightly more (36%) believe that of McMahon's views.
Blumenthal is viewed Very Favorably by 39% of Connecticut voters, up eight points from July. Twenty-one percent (21%) view Blumenthal Very Unfavorably.
McMahon’s reviews are 18% Very Favorable, down seven points from last month, and 28% Very Unfavorable.
At this point in a campaign, Rasmussen Reports considers the number of people with strong opinions more significant than the total favorable/unfavorable numbers.
