Why did Ron say the Constitution GIVES us rights in the video?

He was younger, his rhetoric was less refined perhaps. Did you ever say anything 24 years ago that you might not entirely agree with today?

Actually, he probably just misspoke. I'm pretty sure even back then he believed our rights are inherent and don't come from the Constitution.

It looked like he was reading something, maybe it was made into sound bites for the commercial. But he always spoke of natural rights.

And actually it is no contradiction. If you say that the constitution gives you the right to own a weapon, this doesn't mean that only the constitution gives you that right. The higher natural right is untouched by it. And he knows that most of the people watching the video doesn't follow the natural rights philosophy.
