Rand to introduce pro israel legislation

I thought you guys didn't support "international law". Or maybe you only support it when it suits your agenda? You would be in uproar if the US was enforcing "international law" against an Islamic country with human rights violations.

It's becoming increasing clear that the people who are pissed off by this do not care for the cause of cutting foreign aid. They only care about the destruction of Israel.

I think I agree with you. There's really no reason to hate this move. It isn't perfect, but it is better than literally anything else that has a shot at being signed into law.

I think many neocons will be in the same position again and be forced, by this bill, to defend foreign aid to Israel's enemies ... and they hate doing that, because they try to disguise everything they do as being pro-Israel. Exposing the lying hypocrites while defunding foreign aid? Priceless.

Exactly.

I've never in my life seen a politician so adept at making his opponents look like hypocritical hacks. It will be hilarious to watch the neocons flail at this legislation.

I don't want the destruction of Israel but I am against the continued destruction of the U.S.

Only cuts Palestinian aid? Plus is not the message that one cannot get elected without Israel's blessing a further destruction of principle? Destruction isn't always monetary. Change must really be a pipe dream.

AIPAC opposed Rand's amendment to cut off aid to Egypt and they probably won't support this bill either.

Press release:

Sen. Paul: End Aid to Palestinian Government until They Recognize Israel’s Right to Exist

Will introduce measure this week in Congress

Apr 28, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sen. Rand Paul today released the following statement regarding his measure to make future aid to the Palestinian government conditional upon agreeing to a ceasefire and recognizing the right of Israel to exist:

"The recent announcement of a Fatah-Hamas unity agreement brings both danger and opportunity to the peace process, and the next five weeks may prove critical.

Israel cannot be expected to negotiate with an entity that does not believe it should exist and that has used terrorist tactics to seek its end.

That being said, the new unity government has a chance to put itself on the record as clearly believing in the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state, as Israel recognizes the right of a Palestinian state to exist. It should also declare an immediate and lasting ceasefire to enable negotiations.

If that is accomplished swiftly, the peace process can move forward with two willing partners.

In the absence of such a clear, unambiguous statement on the part of the newly unified Palestinian government, the United States should act to enforce the law and cut off aid to the Palestinian government until they recognize Israel's right to exist.

I will introduce a measure when Congress returns this week to make all future aid to the Palestinian government conditional upon this statement, with a cutoff date of five weeks from now if, upon its formation, the new government does not take this vital step toward peace."

I trust Rand. As much as it makes me sick seeing him basically french kissing Israel's ass, I trust him and I trust that he hasn't sold out. He has to do these things in order to make it to the white house.

Another incredibly smart move by Rand Paul. Could be a game-changer.

If it passes, Rand can go to the primary debates & say "Wanna talk about pro-Israel? Wanna say I haven't passed any legislation that furthers a true Conservative agenda? In one fell swoop, my bill crippled Islamic terrorists, stood up for Judaism & strongly reaffirmed Israel's rightful place on the world stage."

If it fails (and rank-and-file Republicans vote against it), he can expose the Neoconservatives for what they really are: Global imperialists who see Israel-Palestine as a convenient call to arms.

If the bill read... "we support Israel, and as such, want to encourage her to stand on her own.... Thus, no money for you"... I could get behind that.

Isn't ending foreign aid to any country for any reason a good thing? More likely than not, the Palestinian government won't meet those demands so their aid would be cut. Also, AIPAC opposed Rand's attempt to end aid to Egypt because it would destabilize the region. They might have the same opinion in this situation.

Kinda what I was thinking. So if he's successful we get to cut aid. If he's not he gets to say he tried to help Israel. Whats the problem again?

same thing all over again

so in the end it's still about the same theme of trying to find any reason to cut foreign aid in any remotely justifiable fashion on rand's part, i don't know how many times people have to be surprised by this. he also mentioned cutting foreign aid in the ukranian crisis and people are still surprised, and now they have an issue with cutting aids to one side first. people are strange, and dumb

and i don't get it, you can achieve your goals in a relatively more politically expedient way, then you can achieve your goal in a relatively less politically expedient way, why do people have a thing against the former? rand is moving in a way that dispels fears from slower voters, why do you skeptics want more fear? why are you against this? ron focused more on the fast awakening people in society, rand is choosing to educate the slower learning bloc in our society, do you have something against the slower people? it's really your issue, isn't it.

The headline should read: Rand introduces legislation to cut foreign aid.

And the response from libertarians and non-interventionists in general should be: hooray!

Why didn't he propose cutting aid to Israel? Because nothing good would come of that proposal: it would never become law, and it would reduce Rand's popularity within the GOP.

Bears repeating that Rand called for ending Israel's foreign aid when speaking on his trip to Israel, but only after ending it to unfriendly countries. He's most definitely choosing battles he can win, making the neocons look like hypocrites, and setting a precedent to eliminate more.

Here's a refresher for those who don't remember Rand's Isreal trip, and how he maintained a pro-Israel image he must have, while calling for the beginning to the end of their dependence on us:

The younger Mr. Paul made the case while in Israel that the U.S. can’t keep borrowing money and then dishing it out to other countries.

“It will be harder to be a friend of Israel if we are out of money. It will be harder to defend Israel if we destroy our country in the process,” Mr. Paul said, noting that the U.S. was running annual deficits in excess of $1 trillion.

He said the U.S. should first target unfriendly countries for cuts, and only after that should Israel be subject to cuts. And he pointed out that Mr. Netanyahu told Congress in 1996 that “ultimately he would like to see Israel independent of foreign aid as well.”

“I would start a little more quickly with those who are enemies of Israel and enemies of the United States, and I’d like to see their aid ended much quicker,” Mr. Paul said. “With regard to Israel, it could be gradual phenomenon. It doesn’t mean we disengage from Israel.”

Mr. Paul’s message won immediate praise from Naftali Bennett, a rising conservative star in Israeli politics who followed Mr. Paul’s comments by saying that “we need to free ourselves” from U.S. aid and that Israel should show more independence from American wishes.

Soon though, Mr. Bennett dialed back, saying that Israel should only wean itself from American support once its security situation improves

Israel's blessing? I'm sure that Rand isn't going to get Israel's blessing or AIPAC's blessing. As others have said, AIPAC will probably oppose this amendment.

Yeah, it is, but hardly even worth commenting on.

It's clear he's serious about running for president, and in today's AmeriKa, you are not allowed to be president unless you kiss Israel's ass first.

But it's cutting aid none the less so it's not a terrible thing. Palestine is a # 5 recipient of foreign aid. Rand has introduced a plethora of bills to cut foreign aid in various countries for various reasons. Lest we forget.

people do

I can see how this move is open to interpretation. Maybe he is hoping everyone will interpret it in the most positive way for them individually?

Israel first crowd: This is great, its 'pro-Israel'!
Fiscal conservative crowd: This is great, it reduces spending!
Libertarianish crowd: This is a start, it reduces at least some foreign aid.

I've never in my life seen a politician so adept at making his opponents look like hypocritical hacks. It will be hilarious to watch the neocons flail at this legislation.

Bingo!

The two of yall have just figured out what Rand does. :D

What I would give for the rest of the liberty crowd to understand these concepts.
