Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is bringing his presidential campaign to Colorado next week to meet with local supporters.

The Republican will visit Choppers Sports Grill on South Madison Street in Denver at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. It’s Paul’s first campaign trip to Colorado since he announced his candidacy in April. The campaign said the candidate will meet with “constitutional conservatives, local business leaders and activists.”

I'm not crazy about spending time on Denver at this point. It should be Iowa, NH, South Carolina...boom boom boom. All early states all the time.

For the first time ever, a major party candidate for president of the United States raised money from the legal weed industry.

Rand Paul, a U.S. Senator from Kentucky running for the Republican nomination for president, raked in thousands of dollars Tuesday when he held a fundraiser in conjunction with the Cannabis Business Summit at the Denver Convention Center.

Before the rally at Chopper's, Paul hosted the private fundraiser at the Convention Center, with a minimum donation of $2,700 to attend. The summit was put on by the National Cannabis Industry Association, though Paul's fundraiser was not affiliated with the summit. Paul received a $5,000 contribution from NCIA's Political Action Committee. This is the first time the PAC has donated to a presidential campaign.

"It's an untapped market which is awash in cash," said Kenneth Bickers, a professor of political science at the University of Colorado, who noted Paul is unlikely to have much competition within his party for marijuana money.

CO is third behind Iowa caucus and NH primary - in presumed scheduling available now anyway.
Colorado has already voted and determined their first Tuesday in February GOP caucus/straw poll - more electoral votes too.

Colorado caucuses are tentatively on the calendar for March 1, 2016.

Democrat caucus on Tuesday March 1, and South Carolina tentatively on February 20 is also after the Nevada caucus
