Rand Paul to speak at historically black Simmons College in Louisville

This has absolutely nothing to do with my post.

A country that issues its own currency does not have to borrow in its own currency. If no one bought the bonds, then the Fed would buy them, as it's been doing which is effectively just financing the government. The US government doesn't even need the Fed to buy the issued bonds. It could direct the Fed to print up as much money as it needed.

Also saying that the US borrows from China, brings up these false notions that the US is somehow subservient to China, or that China is the US's banker or that the US is dependent on China. The US doesn't need China to keep on financing its government.

I think Rand should lose the borrowing from China stuff as well as the need for a balanced budget. His explanation on both is wrong and bad.

Though when the Fed buys bonds, it's inflationary. When non-government entities and foreign governments buy bonds it's not inflationary.

I would add that the standard you are holding him to is pretty high. That was the first speech he's ever given to that type of audience. I thought it was great and he came well prepared. The guy isn't superman and if he didn't connect with that audience he'll learn from it and correct. And as far as explaining economics, he might not be perfect but he is better at articulating concepts than any politician that I have heard in my lifetime.

I read that speech and I thought it was good... I also watched few q&a and it looked good too.
Some people got impossible standards I guess. Just by going there he is in better position than any other republican... maybe politician...
This is just laughable.
So it's setting impossible standards to expect a politician to know what happened to the two major parties post 1964 and why it happened?

No, he said simply by going there he did so.

This has absolutely nothing to do with my post.

Well neither did yours with his.

You don't know what you're talking about.
Read my post. I was mocking his notion that it's setting impossible standards for Rand not to skip US political history from 1964 to the present day.

Which Barrex never said.
See, I will do the same thing:

This is laughable. So it is setting impossible standards to expect Rand to eat a banana every day?

ROFLMAO...:toady:

So I am laughable? So you are mocking me?

Well I fart in your general direction....

What?

The US isn't borrowing money from China. China is just holding US Treasury bonds that will mature in time. China isn't going to do anything else with those dollars so they're just storing them in a savings account at the Fed.

Ding ding. The Chinese hold about $4T in our government debt. The Fed has been buying up all the extra for quite some time.

From an article on this event:

"He’s definitely going to continue this conversation – and looks forward to visiting other HBCUs," says Paul's communications director, Moira Bagley.

HBCU = historically black colleges and universities

If Rand does this at least on a monthly basis, the "there goes the racist talking to blacks and Hispanics again" meme from the MSM will end real soon.
Tough to sell that meme after Rand goes around the country speaking with people the GOP has previously ignored.

Whatever you want to call it, we're paying interest on the national debt. $104 billion last year.

Here is some video from the Courier Journal. I like the roundtable setting, kind of avoids that "I'm lecturing down to you" stereotype.

Great clip. It did sound like Rand performed well in the slightly more casual format, getting to banter back and forth with Dr. Cosby. Hopefully the entire video will be available soon.

My favorite part was the very end where they interviewed a student and she said Rand Paul in person was totally different than she had seen him portrayed in the media, and that he really seemed to care about her community. That made me smile -- that's what we need to do!
