Rand Paul signs Rafael Cruz' letter to Harry Reid re IMF and Ukraine

Wouldn't surprise me:

Exactly, Cruz has always been obsessed with politics. I'm the same way.

He was born in freakin' Canada to a Cuban father... I don't know about un-American but he is not exactly American. Some call Obama: "Barry", and Romney: "Willard". If anyone wants to call Rand: Randal, or Randy that's fine with me. That is his name.
Hey Billy Bob what does being born in Canada and having a Cuban father got to do with it?

It has to do with being a natural born Citizen. And his potentially running for President in the future. All I care about personally is how he votes. He is pretty good on some things, not so good on others.

Do you call Rand Paul - Randal Paul? That is his legal name. Or Ron Paul - Ronald Paul?

Nope. It's obvious what you guys are doing when you call Ted Cruz - Rafael Cruz. If you want to pretend it is about calling people by their legal name then why not be consistent with it?

I have no problem calling Rand, Randal Paul. In fact I'd prefer it as it gets past that "named after Ayn Rand" misconception/lie. Fair enough, I shall call Rand, Randal from here on out. As far as "what you guys are doing", well I've never referred to him as Rafael before this thread and the only reason I'll do so from here on out is to troll uptight cruz fans. Although I think its rather insulting to say that calling him Rafael is an insult or wrong in some way. It seems like a perfectly good name to me.

The name he is known by is Ted Cruz. The "Rafael Cruz" name is used in order to create a perception that he is illegitimate or un-American.

The name Rafael doesn't make him un-American. His love for Israel, the military industrial complex, and willingness to send American soldiers to die for other countries makes him un-American.

I was hopeful that Cruz was going to be good, but the foreign policy positions that he's taken recently are just a real deal breaker. I don't really even see much difference between him and Rubio on foreign policy issues.

You're also associating yourself with enhanced_deficit...

It doesn't bother me a whole lot but don't pretend you're (not necessarily you but those that do it) doing it for other reasons. It's obvious what the intent is. It's like when people call Obama, Barack Hussein Obama. Why add the middle name? Because people know there is a negative connotation attached to it. I'm sure if Ted's middle name was something more Hispanic instead of Edward people would be including it in their Rafael Cruz posts.

Really, people?

...contains "reform" provisions that would unnecessarily double the United States contribution to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), part of the largest proportional increase ever, yet ultimately undermine our influence in that body in a manner that provides no actual relief to Ukraine.

As we understand it, this reform would double the funds the IMF can loan, involving a doubling of the United States’ contribution from its current level of $63 billion, while simultaneously reducing U.S. influence over how these funds are directed...

...is not more important than the fact that Cruz has a hispanic first name to go with his hispanic last name?

This is the only part of the bill that Cruz has a problem with. He doesn't have any problem at all with giving aid directly to Ukraine. He just doesn't want it to go through the IMF.

Rand was the only Senator to vote against an amendment to the Ukraine aid bill. I'm not sure what the amendment was about.

It looks like the main bill passed without an actual roll call vote. Rand probably just thought it was futile to force a vote on it when he probably would've been the only one to vote against it anyway.
