Rand Paul should attend a UFC

And John McCain hates the UFC.

Not anymore it seems.

As for Sen. McCain, well, it's funny how his opposition to MMA melted away around the time beer giant Anheuser-Busch began sponsoring UFC events. Sen. McCain's father in law, Jim Hensley, founded a beer distribution company, Hensley, over fifty years ago which today is the nation's third largest distributor of Anheuser-Busch beer.

These days, everything's gravy between Sen. McCain and the sport he once tried to kill off for no informed reason. UFC president Dana White and co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta even push a narrative during interviews now that Sen. McCain saved the sport of MMA with his criticism.

There are certainly political downsides to showing strong support for this from both R and D sides of the aisle

As they mentioned in the video the only reason it isn't sanctioned in New York yet for professionals is one legislator (that refused to allow a vote for unrelated reasons) that recently has been indicted on bribery and corruption scheme charges so has bigger concerns to worry about now, opening the door. It's not because of political pressure from some sort of opponent of the sport. I wonder who of the other Presidential candidates would come out on the attack against UFC and even if they did, the blowback would make things interesting. It's not McCain's 1993 anymore, or even 2012 when that video was posted.

Most people believe its politicians that fear the violence of the sport that is slowing things down, but UFC president Dana White says that isn't true. He says it is "union idiots" that are fighting the UFC and MMA in New York.

Silly like playing saxophone on Arsenio Hall or playing bass guitar on tv like Huckster does?

It humanizes him. Voters like that kind of stuff. The whole "who do you want to have a beer with" mentality.

Attending a fight isn't silly, expecting it to be some sort of secret weapon and raise his %s is.

You really want a full Nevada strategy in place before making any moves out there. Sheldon Adelson is just a sleeping lion right now, he is going to be attacking down the line, but unless its to bleed him dry early, I think a full Nevada strategy needs to be in place. If your going to be in that territory you have to be really well prepared. I like the idea of only running core republican issues in Nevada early, let Adelson make a buffoon of himself fighting things that all the other republicans will be shilling a few months later anyway, and then using those attack adds against his chosen candidate. Then he used up his political clout and hit Nevada with the more libertarian parts of Rands platform, which Nevada would go for in my opinion, but Adelson has wasted his money, time, and effort shooting down his own guys view. That would be my Nevada strategy. Poke the lion a bit.

Another idea would be to get a massive group to go wearing the same Stand with Rand shirt. It doesn't just have to be at an MMA fight. It could be outside the Good Morning America window, or the audience of the Jimmy Kimmel show. Any national shows that cut to the audience occasionally.

I never said it was a secret weapon or would raise a percentage. It's just extra visibility to a younger demographic. The best case scenario is that Rand makes some connections, does some meet and greets, and lines up some possible fund raisers. We can we win Nevada. The state is ripe for the message. Spend some time there and take in a good event. It's win/win.

Federal government owns 80+% of Nevada. Rand just needs to say that he will give it back to the state/people of Nevada... or limit percentage of land that federal government can own. 99% of democrats, republicans, moderates, independents etc. will support this.

Well lets face it; its not a sport that encourages one to be a pussy afraid of every possible bad thing that could ever happen.

It's also the ultimate individual sport. You succeed or fail upon your own volition. Nobody is going to give you handout, so its hard work or go do something else. I remember Georges St. Pierre talking about taking a second job working as a garbage man to afford his martial arts training. That's a man.

+rep. My current Shihan studied in Japan when he was in the army. He paid for it by cleaning the dojo and teaching younger students. He slept on the dojo floor because he couldn't afford a place to sleep sometimes. The DIY method is the norm in a lot of MAs. Some are taught in grade schools (like karate in Japan and Okinawa), but they're the exception.

ETA: a pet peeve of mine is the McDojo-type places where people don't have to meet high standards. I've heard horror stories of people making dan grades without the competence of 3rd kyu. SMH.

Aldo will beat Conor. Rand will beat everyone.

Also, McCain once tried to get the UFC banned from America. All the more reason for Randy to attend.

Oss!

There is a lot of great success stories behind many of the fighters in the UFC/MMA, very inspiring.
