Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Wednesday morning that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton deserves a lot of blame for instability in the Middle East and the rising numbers of Islamic State (ISIS) recruits.

Paul said that Clinton’s intervention in Libya and the assassination of Muammar Gaddafi created space for ISIS jihadists to flourish and grow.

“The disaster that is Libya is now a breeding ground for terrorists and is a breeding ground for armaments. So I really do blame Hillary Clinton’s war in Libya for creating a lot of the chaos that is spreading throughout the Middle East,” he said.

I'd have to wonder if Paul would say this if Clinton weren't considering a 2016 run. I doubt it.

The general voter isn't going to care about that, though. Hell, the fact that the Benghazi situation is being called a 'witch hunt' shows how many just put it aside, whether valid or not.

We have proven several times in the last eight years that the 'general voter' cares about what he has good reason to care about, once he has been alerted to the fact that it exists.

Bush and Cheney deserve most of the blame, but of course Rand can't say that since he's running in a Republican primary, where voters only care about "red team vs. blue team."

And that's a good thing. Establishment Demopublicans and Republicrats are the same thing, but thanks to Dubya in particular the Blue Team is perceived as being slightly less immoral. So, let Rand focus on stripping them of 'their Teflon'.

the person most responsible for the rise of ISIS is George W Bush. and Rand should say so. force Jeb to defend W. Jeb is his primary opponent , not Hillary.

remember rand is running as a republican in a republican primary, not as a democrat or a libertarian

that's why he has to take aim at Bush. Jeb is the opponent. if he beats Jeb he has plenty of time to take aim at Hillary. the others are taking aim at him. the Bush family plays hardball.

You are mistaking the "general voter" for the "asshole partisan democratic pundit." The general voter will care about what they are told to care about. The general voter was made to care about stupid stuff like Willie Horton (Google it) or "Swiftboat vets for truth" (Google that as well). The Libya/Syria story is far more damning. Right now the partisan pundits, including the "stealth pundits" like Jon Stewart (glad he's gone), have tried to make Benghazi all about whether reinforcements could have gotten their on time. But the real question is, why did we ally with Al Qaeda to take a regime that had made peace with the U.S.? The facts are there to prove that case. If Hillary is forced to debate Rand Paul she will not be able to shuck and jive that question like she did before the U.S. Senate. TV ads slamming the point home that Hillary Clinton picked Al Qaeda over a U.S. ally will destroy her. And superpacs can make infomercials laying out the entire case. This can happen. The only question is, will it?

Edit: Finally clicked the link and read it. Rand is already where he needs to be on this.

He's already made this bigger than Benghazi. How do you think Hillary is going to answer the question "Was the U.S. national security interest served by your decision to help Al Qaeda linked terrorists overthrow an ally of the United States?"

If you want to go to the root of the problem you have to go back to Jimmy Carter. He signed off on funding radical Islamists in order to get the Soviets to invade Afghanistan. But the direct cause of the current ISIS problem is the secret foreign policy of Hillary and Obama. Syria was stable at the end for the Bush administration. So was Libya. There was no possibility of an Al Qaeda takeover of either country like there is now. And the militants in Iraq and Afghanistan were at least contained. That said, Rand will need to go after the Bush legacy when he takes on Jeb. He should tie Jeb's foreign policy to Hillary's.

Maybe Hillary thought that if she removed enough governments an anarchist Utopia would erupt?
