Riiight, because Trump represents true conservative ideas (like socialized medicine, corporate welfare, Keynesian economics, and gun control), while Rand was just cozying up with the establishing (by proposing the largest tax cut in history, the largest spending cut in history, etc)....................................

No, Trump support is deeper than that. The problem is that the Republicans were betrayed on many important issues - illegals, Obamacare, Iran. The "leaders", Rand included, started speaking Trump's language now, but they were supporting Obama in all his policies. Maybe Cruz made little waves occasionally, that's all. Rand was no different. Were else can the Republicans turn?

I liked the article, but I'm actually inclined to agree with this. Trump is going to come tumbling down the hill; you don't want to be seen as the one pushing him. Sure, it's red meat for us, but it may not be wise.

On the flip-side, there are many people in the GOP that can't wait until Trump is out of the race. If Rand appears to be the strongest person calling out Trump as a fake, then he could be vindicated when it's proven.

Ah hell, I can't predict where this is going... For all I know, Rand and Trump are coordinating strategies.

Tumbling down the hill means he is losing his supporters. If you are the one pushing him down the hill it means you said something in order for his supporters to leave him. Being that Rand attacked him by contrasting their positions I think he'd stand to gain a good chunk of any that left. And the alternative is of course leaving him atop the hill. Probably as safe as Rand should be playing it considering the relevant data, imo.

I don't know if this will work, but it is the moral thing to do. This country needs to be told when it is stupid. That's why Paul's numbers are low right now.

Rand Paul's New Mission: Take Down Trump

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said Monday he is ready to refocus his presidential campaign on attempting to take down Republican front-runner Donald Trump.

On a conference call with reporters, Paul, whose campaign has languished in the polls amid tepid fundraising and a shifting politics on national security issues, said he is planning to expose Trump as “an empty suit full of bravado but not anything meaningful for the country.”

“The truth-telling is bluster, the truth-telling is non-sequitur, it’s self-aggrandizement,” Paul said. “Is there really anything substantive coming out of saying people are fat, people are stupid?”

“Are we going to fix the country simply through bombast and empty blather,” he asked.

Please tell me more. I would like to hear more about how "Trump tells it like it is" and "takes on the Establishment." I would to hear more about how he is not afraid to tell the truth and how he takes those DC fat cats and how stands on principle. I would also like to hear about how Rand "goes along to get along" and how he is "just another squish Republicrat Demican." Your opinions seem very well thought out. Go ahead. Please.

Twitter is reacting to Rand's attack by seeing him as the establishment watchdog now. Attacking the rebel. He needs to use this exposure he will get by getting in the ring with Trump by explaining how great he is. If Rand can spin this as he is saving the soul of America from another empty suit (like Obama) and really trying to give the country back to the people, this attack can work. Trump can come back and say stuff, but Rand can actually bring solutions to the table.

Also, this attack helps him get into the next debate. If for no other reason by CNN ratings.
