The Republican party is up for grabs. It can go to Lindsey Graham and John McCain, or we can take it.
All due respect, sir or madam, I believe 2012 proved that the GOP is broken beyond repair. If that bastard Rush was right about anything during the run up to the election, it was his assertion in late '11 that Obama was "landslide-ably beatable." And, Obama was. The GOP voter will always choose party over principle, and if the argument is, "Fine, let's force the die-hard GOP voter to choose Rand in 2016," it fractures on one critical point.
The GOP will not nominate Rand Paul.
Try as we might, we cannot infiltrate, coerce, commandeer, or cajole the Republican party into supporting the ideas of liberty. They are about power, growth of government, and war. Just like the Democrats. I'd rather both parties face defeat at the hands of Rand...I believe a case could be made for thinking that even the die-hard GOP voter, in 2016, faced with another ridiculous choice (such as Hillary or Gore vs. Romney II or its equivalent), would vote for a coalition party of Rand and Kucinich, or Rand and Davis.
I know I offer some radical ideas in this reply. Be gentle, please. These are times for radical ideas. Think of it: Obama is the arch Democrat, so far left that new graduations need be marked on the gauge. He was nominated by the DNC with a little bit of fear - would America stomach this much of "the Agenda" in one sitting? It's time to nominate like for like, to match fire with fire. We need to offer, in 2016, the polar opposite of Obama. This could be Rand, this could be Davis, this could be someone we don't even know yet. I'm talking sea-change levels of opposite; zero compromise.
