Rand Paul vs. GOP establishment

Rand Paul consistently tops the list of possible GOP presidential candidates in 2016, including a Quinnipiac University poll in Colorado this week in which he beat Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton 48-43 percent.

The poll in Colorado might also shed some light on where Paul could outflank his GOP counterparts – among young voters, according to Politico.com.

Will the GOP Dead Enders snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once again?

Or can "we" overcome them.

A very liberal friend of mine, someone i've known for over 20 years now, has voted democrat her entire life. She basically detests Republicans.

The other month I asked her if there's anyone she'd vote for in the GOP field and she said that if Rand Paul gets the nom it won't matter who the Democrats put up because she'll vote for him.

I was floored...

Sure, he's not Ron, but he's the best shot a great many of us have ever had. I fear TPTB would wreck his Presidency in every way possible to discredit free minded people for a whole other generation but it doesn't mean we still shouldn't try. He has the ability to unite the nation and save our Republic.

I won't loose hope for Rand although I know the repubs will probably fight him more than the dems.

Rand really needs to talk about something no other candidate will touch and that is hemp. I think this is an untapped resource that few Americans know about, and when they find out how many jobs could be created using hemp it would be all over for the other candidates.

But Dat Der Hemp rope gets ya high! Derrrr, we can't have that now cause that tharrr is evil. Men should only drink booze like Gawd intended...Derrrrr

Honestly, hemp would revolutionize farming, plastics, and construction and could create a boom revitalizing the national economy but why would a politician ever support that when they all think (despite polls) that acting hard in support of the drug war will get them elected.

Creating an issue to campaign on, and having to first educate the public about it, can take years longer than the available time. It's especially difficult at the national level where 80% of the population doesn't pay any attention until just a few months before the election.

There may be good issues to campaign on which no other candidate will touch, but the ones that "few Americans know about" aren't practical.

ya.. that 5% difference separates him from ron, i love people and how they like to repeat that line, it's like msm never forgetting to mention the word isolationist to show the viewers they 'aren't totally on board' as if it somehow denotes for them the most trivial tint of intellectual independence

I'm starting to think the Democrats are going to need a plan B.

I seriously think the only hope for Hillary is if the GOP establishment can get the public to believe our party nominated a total fraud designed to lose. Who in this entire country could lose to Hillary in an election? It would have to be a Bush, or a Romney, or somebody like Peter King.

I'm curious. Since your friendship with this woman extends back over 20 years, did she ever express her opinion on Ron and his candidacy in 2008 or 2012? If she didn't also warm to his candidacy, do you have any idea why not?
