Rand Paul filibusters Patriot Act renewal and yields floor after 10.5 hours - Official thread

I'm seeing on twitter that Rand is speaking on the senate floor right now.

It hasn't "happened". It sorta all depends on when leadership decides to bring the patriot act up for a vote.

They really got about a day to try to get all the votes necessary. The NSA is preparing to shutdown as we speak.

The Obama administration says the NSA must begin preparing to end its bulk-telephone-spying program as soon as Friday. NSA will attempt to ensure that any shutdown of the program occurs as close in time as possible to the expiration of the authority, Last week, the House overwhelmingly passed the USA Freedom Act, which would effectively end the NSA's phone dragnet while extending the Patriot Act's three surveillance provisions. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Republican defense hawks instead prefer a short-term "clean" reauthorization of the authorities. It is unclear if either option has the 60 votes necessary to advance, and the House is due to leave town on Thursday until June.

What did he say he was doing? I need to know what to post with the link on social media.

EDIT: He posted this on Facebook:

I've just taken the senate floor to begin a filibuster of the Patriot Act renewal. It's time to end the NSA spying! Join me at http://www.randpaul.com

I wonder if the Mitch McConnell stance on wanting full passing until next presidential year was just to contrast Rand's position so much better and then let him on the floor to speak in the first place. Seems like Mitch is paying back his debts.

Speak until he can no longer speak and we all know there is plenty to talk about with the PATRIOT Act
