Rand Paul discussion coming up on O'Reilly

They are replaying O'Reilly where I live [Madison, Wisconsin]. They said in the promo introducing the show that "now Rand Paul wants to decriminalize marijuana".

That's not what Rand said on Fox News Sunday.
Yes he does want to decriminalize it. What do you think he means when he says "kids shouldn't go to jail for mistakes" when talking about the subject?

Did they paint Rand in a negative light?

They admited that he was a bona-fide contender, but brought up his most controversial positions and deliberitely didn't clarify or explain them honestly. Yes, it was intended to be negative as they were hoping that by giving no details people would assume that Rand wants amnesty and likes drugs.

He might want to decriminalize it, but that's not what Rand said on Sunday. You can still get probation if it is illegal.

So Rove doesn't have a problem with a Republican Presidential nominee supporting gay marriage, but he has a problem with a Republican Presidential nominee supporting marijuana legalization/decriminalization? Hmmm, ok.

You must remember that Bush's campaign manager and director of political affairs in the white house was a gay man. And who would doubt that Rove (and Bush) knew that all along? These people only use religious folk as tools for their empowerment.

I have no idea what I'm saying here but ..... I think O'reilly is putting himself in a box and will start fading soon. Seems that all the radio people and other cable people are giving more credit to liberty and O'reilly isn't "evolving" with them. He will have his die hard audience that will keep his checks good and plump but his influence will eventually deteriorate.

Unfortunately I think he is fairly influential right now. I have no idea why but most of his viewers think he is very fair and reasonable - which is exactly how I would describe him, only opposite.

i think he just drifts whichever way the wind blows aka whatever he thinks his audience wants to hear from him. he even slows down his pace when he talks because some people complained about his other guests speaking too quickly and they couldn't grasp it. talk about mental picture of bunch of geezers watching o'reilly, collecting SS and don't mind bankrupting the country, nodding their head in agreement with whatever 50 year old failed ideas that brought us this quagmire from where the country started--and having trouble hearing, on top of that. "huh?! what did you just say?? slow down~" ..disgusting

It's really not worth watching.

seriously i think you and some others have got a defeatist problem.. same attitude toward rand's filibuster saying it may have accomplished little.. refusing to engage the outside world is not how ron and rand and many others expanded the cause we're all trying to salvage much more efficiently than you have. not everyone is fearful and afraid of trying new things, new strategies. there may come failures where you naysayers jump out and suddenly become the loudest, but a way will eventually be found, and it won't be by those too scared to try it.

O'Reilly can get away with it for the time being because he plays the moderate role. His credibility will not take the hit that Beck's would if he does not keep pace with the sentiments of the libertarian wing of the party. Both Beck and O'Reilly will reach consensus come election time. The good thing about the O'Reilly segment is that it means that he can no longer ignore Rand and remain credible.

I don't really care if they didn't completely praise him, I'll still watch it if they weren't dismissive or condescending.

I thought the discussion was interesting. They both started out highly negative towards Rand, but then Rove pulled a 180.
