Rand Paul at Iowa Faith & Freedom Event

The comment on gays cheapened the speech.

I agree. This is why I probably will not support Rand in 2016 like I did with Ron in 08 and '12. I can't imagine Ron saying "his views on marriage couldn't get any gayer."

This quote seems appropriate right about now.

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”
― Samuel Adams

Yeah, and if Rand was saying it, it would read: “If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were gayer.”

Grow up. You are totally misinterpreting what he was talking about.

They're not the exact same person. You can't expect a father and son to agree on everything.

I can't imagine Rand saying the things about blacks that Ron did in his newsletters.

Lol, I'm just kidding, but let's not criticize Rand so much for one joke he made. No one is perfect, and that includes Ron.

Just because some newsletters were released under his name doesn't mean he said the statements. But I know you understand that and are just making a point.

In this idiocracy we are forced to live in, this statement will be scrutinized by the asshole media nonstop and hypersensitive special interest groups will jump on this in an attempt to paint our movement as bigots. So I wish he hadn't said it. But it doesn't matter AT ALL in the grand scheme of things. I just wish he hadn't said it because it gives the idiotic, hyper-sensitive, whining liberal children some red meat against us.

You should see r/politics (Reddit). They are blowing up about this. They hate Rand now (if they didn't before).

Rand needs to be more careful, but I also think it's ridiculous to take it so seriously. Especially because he said it should be left up to the states in the speech. I thought people here should know better than to judge so harshly for a little joke (that means you, brandon).

They hated him since he was against civil rights because the propagandist rachel maddow (who a lot of the gullible folks around here apparently admire because she said something nice about us recently) said so. The people who are brainwashed by the state are out to oppose us anyway they can. They're all about using something like this to turn gays against us which is why I wish Rand never said this

When are we going to stop saying that Rand is a better politician than Ron?

If we were judging by the politics of this, any impartial person would see the good in it. Rand has essentially the same position as Ron does on this issue, but what differentiates them is that Rand throws a little red meat in.

Don't allow the homosexual media to drag you away from the foundations of individual liberty. I see so many people brainwashed with this collectivist mindset.

Yes, noting that Ron Paul has inspired legions of non-Republicans to vote for a Republican and set the brushfires of liberty in the minds of countless youth, and understanding that this is a sign of a greater politician than someone who is burning those bridges and narrowing the boundaries in which we can operate is obviously an opinion shaped by the homosexual media. How many hundreds of thousands of people have chanted END THE FED at Ron Paul's leading? When Ron says something that causes people to recoil, it's because he exposes his liberty boner. When Rand says something that causes people to recoil, it's because he's put his foot in his mouth again. If Rand is the smoother politician of the two, why does he put his foot in his mouth so frequently when Ron doesn't?

By the way, which media outlet that apparently led me to believe this is homosexual?

But, you see, you don't have an option for Ron after this election. I don't see anyone else even close to Rand, in sharing Ron's principles. Ron has stuck his foot in his mouth plenty too. Give Rand a break. He's human.

A lot of people don't understand how important throwing red meat can be. I hope he gets attacked by the left for this because it will make him more of a darling of the right. And if you haven't already learnt this, having cross-over appeal doesn't win primaries friends.

Yeah, but being labeled a homophobe doesn't win the general election, my friend.

It won't matter. This is a drop in the bucket and we have people here thinking its going to end Rand's career...lol. Ron and Rand essentially have the same position on this. If you are a homosexual and you need your ego stroked every five minutes from a politician then you probably don't care about liberty anyway.

For me....it makes me like him more.

He is against government definition of marriage while still a Christian, just like me.

I have an option to not support someone who wishes to fund Social Security and Medicare in perpetuity, who thinks sanctions are okay, and who makes needlessly inflammatory comments along the way.

By the way, when Ron "sticks his foot in his mouth" he exposes just how strongly he believes in liberty (see: heroin, Bradley Manning, Osama Bin Laden). When Rand does it he just comes off as a jerk and a brat, and worse, it's red meat; not even something that interests libertarians.
