Rand Paul and Ted Cruz Attended the Koch 2014 Strategy Meeting

The Koch Brothers' meeting in Palm Springs could presage the beginning of the change back to sensible policies and limited government that so many are hoping for.

Koch Brothers Revamp Strategies for 2014

The New American
01 May 2013

...
Among the 200 attendees at the weekend event were several of those who might be political participants in, and possible beneficiaries of, those Koch-funded and directed strategies, including Dr. Ben Carson, Governors Nikki Haley (R-S.C.) and John Kasich (R-Ohio), and Senators Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

The New York Times:

Koch Brothers Plan More Political Involvement for Their Conservative Network

At least a half-dozen rising Republican stars were also in attendance. They included Dr. Ben Carson, a Baltimore neurosurgeon who has quickly developed a following among grass-roots conservatives, and several members of the Tea Party wing: Govs. Nikki R. Haley of South Carolina and John R. Kasich of Ohio, along with Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Rand Paul of Kentucky.

Awesome. The more help from Koch and all the groups he finances/supports, the better.

This is a mixed bag. There is the benefit of money, but there is also the stigma of association.

Ah, fuck it, who am I kidding. The average voter doesn't follow the money to its associations. The advertising boost would be nothing but good.

Eh, they're going to associate any libertarian with the Kochs, so might as well get the benefits out of it.

Only the fringe left seem to know or care about the Kochs (and a few anarchists with personal agendas from long ago). Either way, Rand will never get the vote of those people, so it doesn't matter.

Right, the only people making a problem out of this would never vote for Rand to begin with.
Non issue. It would be better if no money was needed for election and these kind of associations aren't necessary, something I think a lot of people can agree on. We cannot change that however, so it's better that we focus on things we can change that have actual positive outcomes on liberty.

Fringe left? I think you had too much to dream last night. If you think for a second that people aren't coming around to understanding that economic hitmen like Koch and others haven't completely hijacked our electoral process then you're insane. Representation of the individual most certainly is a personal agenda. And more people are beginning to take it personal. This is not fringe in any way. One thing that has been a virus in the political processes of elections is that these econmic hitmen and their minions thrive off of the ignorance of the people. It's truly a travesty. Call them fringe if you like but ad hominem doesn't change the fact.

This.

Blanket dismissal of left-wing activists is a mistake. Things like Ted Rall's recent column explaining how Rand Paul is the highest-profile and most promising pro-privacy and anti-imperialism candidate out there are priceless, and places like HuffPo will try to torpedo this advantage with implications that Rand is a Koch puppet. Even if it is obvious that finding out what those clowns are up to could be advantageous to their opposition.

This notion that we can't get peace and anti-corporatist support from 'both sides of the aisle', or that this support is worthless to us, is thoroughly disproven poppycock. If we can't get over this 'Red Team/Blue Team' divide and conquer horsehockey, then there truly is no hope for this nation.

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Natural Citizen again."

Superbly said!

The Kochs backed Mitt Romney and he lost. what were you saying about hijacking our electoral process?

Oh, were you pushing the "Rich = Evil" thing again. Okay.

If we can just think really carefully about how to package Rand Paul, I really do think the Huffpost people will come around and embrace him. Maybe we can do a peace pipe episode on Rachel Maddow. There's always hope, right?

And there's a pretty high percentage of HuffPost readers who are likely voters in a Republican primary, right?
