Rand interview that started the vaccine controversy

Laura sucks.... she is the definition of shill and no friend of a free society.

Dunno about all that but have we completely forgiven her for the insane asylum comment?

More like forgotten. ;)

We have the running joke that people are "coming around", but Ingraham seems sincere, and she may be the only person who constantly brings up Rand in a positive light.

I'd have to dig up the video but here is a reference to it:

I do question the sanity of an America who gives us these choices for President. When Laura Ingraham introduced Ron Paul during the Ames Iowa Straw poll in the midst of the so-called Paultards yelling for their candidate, and joked, “the inmates have left the asylum“, she was being a bit prophetic. The inmates have indeed left the asylum, but now we want it back. The inmates are those who believe in liberty and the Constitution. The asylum is the Republican Party.

To be fair she has been nice to both Pauls since. But people were rightfully a bit upset about that.

Speaking only for myself, I don't take a joke like that during a live event personally.

Yeah, she has changed her tune quite a bit since then. She has admitted that she was wrong in the past, which is why she is so positive on Rand now.

Anyway, more relevant to this thread, has anyone listened to the full interview from yesterday? I haven't had a chance yet...was hoping someone could summarize.

Good stuff - entirely reasonable, entirely mainstream, and exactly what he said on CNBC.

If the media tries to lump Rand in with the rabid anti-vaccine people they're going to make fools of themselves, since the facts are so clearly contrary to that narrative.

Explain, please. What are rabid anti-vaccine people?

What's there to explain?

*People who are rabidly opposed to all vaccinations*

Whatever you think of the science (I have no opinion myself), the anti-vaccine position is politically toxic.

Hence it's probable that the media will try to put Rand in that camp, based on his recent comments, in order to discredit him.

(but, as I said, it won't work at all - since that is extremely clearly not Rand's position).

I'm of the view that politics are toxic to science. You're comment that people who are rabidly opposed to all vaccinations are the terms of controversy that evolve when pundits choose not to provide a position on the science and let the media decide the terms. It is disingenuous to attempt to sell the idea that people are opposed to all vaccinations. That just isn't the case. There are many aspects of vaccination that impact ones choice of when and how they practice it.

Until we get a politician actually providing his/her position on science given it's impact on legislation in an era where it drives the world around us I think it's in any representatives interest to provide a position on it if they wish to lead given the impact of both science and evoving technologies (and there are evolving technologies with regard to medicine. Specifically "vaccines).

And all he has to do is open up the box and read the label on some of this stuff. It's that simple.

1. Laura speculates that Graham is considering running just to cover for Jeb in SC if somebody like Randal wins IA,NH.

2. Randal says he welcomes the foreign policy debate. refers to Hillary's War and uses his new soundbite about not being powerful when you are in bankruptcy court.
Says he isn't worried about ISIS affecting his chances. Mentions that he warned that giving weapons to moderates would end up with weapons in radicals hands.

3. Talks about having to cut the budget to pay for our foreign wars, etc. Supports auditing the pentagon.

4. Talks about how it is hypocritical for Jeb to want to put people in jail for using pot, how rich get away with it and poor don't.

5. Talks about Koch influence in politics. Randal says the conference spent a lot of time talking about being against crony capitalism, defunds kochs as not wanting cronyism.

6. Discusses the medical board deal and the article. rehash, says the one thing he was successful in was shaming the main board into getting the old doctors to voluntarily retake the test.

7. vaccine stuff - he is pro vaccine, I don't feel like typing it all out

8. she ends show talking about how jeb bush has a talk radio problem and Randal doesn't as he comes on the show and answers questions

@Natural Citizen

Yes, in reality it's more complicated than just pro-/anti-vaccine, but I'm talking about politics and perceptions, where it is that simple, and where anti-vaccine = kook.

For what its worth, Laura has been defending Rand over this.

Here for example

There are even a bunch of people on Rand's Facebook page criticizing him over this, people who claim to be conservatives. What in the world???

I am strenuously opposed to the ingredients in the vaccine, not the vaccine itself--of course that immediately labels you as an anti-vaxxer and a kook. And if this is going to be the political football, it needs to be discussed until people get it. Most people blindly trust doctors...it has been documented that a lot of doctors receive kick-backs from the pharmaceutical companies--as well as many politicians.

There are some good doctors, my own pediatrician did not vaccine his children because he was one doctor who read vaccine inserts.

Again, we are supposed to be in a free society where people are supposed to make informed choices.

Nevermind........Let's talk for the next 120 hours about vaccinations and how Rand Paul doesn't need to be President.

Thanks. Sounds like a good interview with a lot of topics other than vaccines.
