Rand got less than half the votes than Ron got

If Bernie Sanders, Ted Cruz, and Donald Trump were running when Ron did he would never have gotten past 1%. If ISIS started beheading people when Ron was running, he never would have gotten 1%. Rand's campaign was far more polished, had far better presence, and was run much better than Ron's.
 
Ok as a young person who's been watching closely and has really grown to like Rand a lot let me just put in my 2 cents. Once the media starts really digging at Ted Cruz, I believe he will lose a lot of his support. Donald Trump is just a huge distraction right now. Marco Rubio is basically Bush III. Carson is unqualified to be president although a likeable and surely a genuine guy at heart. He just wears his superstitions too much on his sleaves.

Paul still has a good chance, he's ahead of Bush, Fiorina, Christie, Santorum, obviously Huckabee dropped out. Guys this wasn't a huge win but it also wasn't a total loss. Let's keep a positive attitude moving forward, this is an INSANE race. So much could happen, you could possibly say maybe it's good Paul hasn't peaked yet.

I don't think that this thread was the sole reason for Matt getting a temporary leave of absence, more just the final straw that broke the camel's back. There are several people on here that have gone well beyond a simple "I told you so" to outright gloating, as if they were happy to see Rand lose, Matt was definitely coming off that way on multiple threads. Not a good idea on a forum which is for the purpose of supporting Rand's candidacy. Any other forum would have punched Matt's ticket a long time ago for less obnoxious behavior.

Dave Brat rode the anti-establishment wave long before the media even realized it existed. People who pay attention in politics are rewarded. The vast anti-establishment vote was there for the taking. Cruz, Rand, or Walker all could have made a strong play for it. But they dithered and played it safe and then Trump just waltzed in and picked it up.

He didn't walk in and pick it up. The media gave it to him on a silver platter. It was literally one side remark said in passing that accidentally spawned the entire trump-mania.

I keep saying this over and over again. The problem wasn't Ron, Rand or the message, the problem is the country and the people who occupy it. People are not deceived to this extent unless they want to be deceived. I didn't want to believe this about the people I live among, but America, nay Western Civilization as a whole is in the throws of pathological stupidity, most of it brought about by idolatrous tendencies that have been in the works for well over a century now.
 
Ron would not have done well this year. People are too scared of boogie man muslims right now.
 
i think Rand needs to take stock, hang in there, and carefully build up an organization for 2o2o because
2o16 is going to be dominated by Donald Trump's Super*EGO. He has a conceit equal to Newt Gingrich
and the ability to work a crowd not unlike Huey Long of Louisiana. When one of the better candidates for
the Democratic Party is a truth in labeling Socialist, many Establishment Republicans are going to lament
the fact that Mitt Romney sat this one out. Trim things down, run a mean, lean campaign but don't quit!!!

I don't presume to speak for Kotin, but my guess would be no. There are others here saying the same things as Matt but in a far less snarky and trollish fashion. I think it's more how Matt was saying things rather than what he was saying that got him kicked off here temporarily. When you post the same stupid video snippet from Futurama on multiple threads with an eye for concern trolling, it doesn't play well with others, and this would be true of any other forum.

I disagree! I think he needs to hang in there, I mean who else are you betting on. I don't think Cruz or Trump will be the nominee, I can't see it happening! I think at this point they are giant distractions and deterrents. I think he needs to stay in there and fight, and if he doesn't win then yea run in 2020! But I can't see him running again to be honest. He's not a career politician, he seems like someone who will want to focus on life and family. President can be an 8year job, I don't think any sane man would run twice in this political environment

No it's not the truth and you prove again that you don't know shit. Rand Paul's strategy to court the rank and file morons in the GOP did him in. He decided early on to distance himself from his father and the movement that brought him to the dance. The weak money bombs and the lack of enthusiasm proved it. Did you see any sign bombs on freeway overpasses? In 2012, a sea of people with home made signs followed Ron Paul wherever he went often preceding him before he even got there. Did you see the same enthusiasm for Rand Paul? His strategy of working with the establishment didn't work. Plain and simple. It didn't gain him any support but it did lose him some with his father's base.

It may be too late for this election but all is not lost. The rEVOLution is still out there and Rand Paul can lead it. He needs to go back to the Rand Paul of 2010. The one that said Iran was no threat to us. The one that said he would end aid to EVERYONE including Israel. The one that won't kiss the ring of whoever is leading the GOP. Hopefully he learns now to go home with the one that brought him to the dance. The country will still need it.

This^^ and if I understand correctly, the Rand forum is designed for constructive threads WRT the campaign instead of stuff like the OP.

I agree. The game of politics is fun, but it isn't going to change the country. People generally believe that government is the solution to all life's problems. And they think government benefits are free.

Just like those who go to the casino and don't see how they're losing. Human's are animals.

Until I saw this from a MOD to somebody with over 41,000 posts and been here since 07, I only thought tonight things were over for Rand.
Now I realize something even much sadder, this night brings to end to RPF as viable place to post and discuss politics realistically and pragmatically.

It's a very sad night indeed :(
