Rand Campaign: "We are confident he'll [Rand will] be on the main stage."

So far in that time frame, using data from Real Clear Politics, Paul polls nationally at 2.7 percent. In Iowa, he's at 2.8 percent and in New Hampshire he's at 3.8 percent.

And unfortunately for Paul, the latest New Hampshire poll put him at 2 percent, a sign he's slipping in the state that gives him the best chance to make the primetime debate. In any subsequent polls, his numbers would need to dramatically increase to get an average at or above 4 percent.

Despite his poor numbers, a spokesman for Paul said the campaign is confident he'll make it.

"We expect several more polls to come out over next few days, just today Senator Paul was in fifth place in the latest national poll," the aide said. "We are confident he'll be on the main stage."

Until now, Paul has made it on stage for each of the main primetime debates. The primetime debates are considered to include the "top-tier" candidates and are seen by millions more viewers than the undercard debates, which take place earlier in the evening and are reserved for lower-polling candidates who don't meet the requirements to make it to the main event.

A drop into the undercard debate would be seen as a setback to Paul's bleeding campaign, though not necessarily a fatal shot.

Paul's GOP rival Chris Christie was also placed in an undercard slot at last month's debate, hosted by Fox Business Channel. But Christie appears ready to comfortably make the cut this time.

A spokesperson for CNN would not confirm to the Washington Examiner media desk how many spaces will be made available on stage for the primetime event next week.

An analysis of who would make the cut based on CNN's critieria now includes eight candidates: Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Christ Christie and Carly Fiorina.

The undercard stage appears set to include Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum.

There's no reason to be confident however, this is the same hollow talk that Christie's spokesperson offered up prior to the Fox Business debate:

Christie is averaging just 2 percent in the four most recent national polls, with eight days to go until the polling window closes. And he isn't the only one on the bubble: Ohio Gov. John Kasich is averaging exactly a 2.5 percent.

Samantha Smith, a Christie spokesperson, told CNN that the campaign was "not worried" and feeling "confident."

What's wrong with New Hampshire, is the free state project dead?

Considering

1. Its only 2k people so far; so random polling unlikely to select

and

2. Rand is TOO moderate for a large number of FSPers

I wouldn't count them for dead *just* quite yet.

Forget about New Hampshire. Rand just got 2% in a WBUR poll just released. Only Iowa can save him now.

Riddle me this .. if Rand Paul is confident he'll be on .. why is there panic that he won't be? is it because you really really love the guy right? ;)

Rick Perry was also very confident right before he missed the first debate. I fact, he actually said "we will be in the debate."

We're hoping for a new 6% result in Iowa, and if not, we're hoping the campaign can negotiate themselves in, somehow.

So, assuming we won't be in this debate (nothing we can do now can change the results of polls coming out before then), how do we align ourselves to pull a Christie and crawl back?

This is the end of the campaign if we don't get back up there.

It's like what I said before the last debate, the problem is, no matter how well he does in the undercard, I just don't ever see the media proclaiming him the "winner". Like when they gave Carly favorable coverage after her undercard debate, or Christie after the last one. Will Lindsey even make the undercard debate? In that case his biggest opponent that will push back against his non-inteverntionism the most will be Santorum. So we are going to get a little blast from the past Paul v. Santorum. They could give Paul good coverage based off of those exchanges, if he does well to articulate his immigration stances and point out out the hypocrisies of arming ISIS, etc. I just don't see the media giving him any favorable coverage, or any of them for that matter.

Christie, Kasich and Bush PACs and campaigns are spending hella money there right now trying to take down Trump.

Carly earned that coverage from her first debate. She memorized pages of text and was able to spit them out fast, without mistakes and seemingly in response to the relevant topics. The other candidates mostly stood there and looked at her, thinking "oh shit".

Ya, many "libertarians" and FSPers are too "pure" to see when some little effort on their part could benefit them in the long run so they cut off their collective noses to spite their collective faces...

Yeah, Christie's ads are all over the place in NH. They have been for a little while. Nothing from Rand.
