Rallying the RP supporters in NC

Over the last several years, from what I've seen in N.C. and other states, is that you need to be aware of the different categories of party rules. As in:

Written rules
Unwritten rules
Observed rules
Ignored rules
Forgotten rules
Misunderstood rules

I'm semi-joking about all that. Obviously some counties take the party plan of organization more literally than others. For many decades, North Carolina's process has fallen toward the tail end of the nomination schedule. Hence, the particulars did not really matter so much. "Hey, who wants to go to National this year?"

I don't think the NCGOP is as bad as what we've read about elsewhere. *If you follow the written rules* excactly, you won't get into trouble or have your credentials invalidated.

What I and the other alumni try to do on the forum, is caution people not to expect the same lenient treatement that the old guard has given themselves. There ARE examples of the rules being applied much more carefully to newcomers.

Hey, feel free to dig into the details. Here's the party plan for your reading pleasure.

Thanks MozoVote. I didn't see any specifics related to my situation in the party plan, unless I missed it.

My situation -

never voted before,
politically aware, but new to the election process,
new to GOP,
registered to vote Dec 2011,
precinct vice-chair,
delegate to the county convention

What GOP rules can work against me?

I have heard of people who registered Republican in January, and were not on the voter rolls being used by the local GOP. Remember the county party (even your county board of elections) may not have a great technology budget and keep things updated in real-time.

Hopefully December is good enough and there will be no hangups.

When people encounter this problem, then it's good to have a few friends in the party already to vouch for you. The county delegation can vote as a whole and could probably include someone in that situation as an alternate to district convention, until the registration information is fully updated.

It can't hurt to bring your Voter Registration Card to your precinct meeting just in case someone questions whether or not you're a registered Republican. If you have official proof that you are, and registered prior to the cutoff date, I can't see how they could turn you away.

Hi. What do I need in order to vote in NC? Do I need identification with me when I go and my voter registration card?

Thanks. I'll be taking my ID with me but on the back of my voter registration card it says I don't need it to vote (should have read it more thoroughly lol). So just my ID?

Yeah, every time I have went, they have a book with stickers that have everyone who is registered Republican or unaffiliated and they match it up to your ID, then give you the ballot and send you to the booth. At my Durham precinct its a pretty simple and quick process.

You're not far from me. I am in Alamance County.

Thanks for the info

I have just confirmed that the 11th District GOP under Chairman David Sawyer has been in contact with both the Gingrich and Santorum campaigns about having them speak at the 11th District GOP Convention. They have NOT contacted the Paul campaign, and have no intentions of doing so unless "they hear from people asking for that."

If you are in the 11th District (or know folks who are), encourage them to let David Sawyer know that if one candidate is given speaking time, ALL candidates must be afforded the same opportunity.

Does "Having them speak" mean the actual candidate, presumably by phone/Skype/tinfoil antenna, or a campaign representative from the candidate's NC or national office?

From what I have heard, we're talking about either Gingrich or Santorum, in person. Possibly both.

For those who want to go to State Convention but may not be able to make their County Convention, please see the new thread I just posted regarding Gaston County. Gaston is tightening the rules on absentees being credentialed to State & District, but it CAN be done if you contact a party official in advance. I'm heading to Atlanta for the weekend (GO HEELS!) but I've submitted my name and paid my $10 to get put on The List.

Impressive. Of course if Ron is scheduled, Tucker Carlson will arrange for Asheville's bare-breast brigade to show up with NUDISTS FOR PAUL body-painted across their, um, assets

Unfortunately, "thanks" to NCGOP redistricting, Asheville is now lumped in with the tenth district.
