Basically, McCain won 630 delegates by Super Tuesday (he needed around 850 or 900 to get to 50%), with Mitt Romney at 230 or 240, Huck with 30 or 40, and only a handful with Paul. Mitt Romney suspended his campaign. Huck lasted a bit longer, but soon dropped out when states after Super Tuesday voted overwhelmingly for John McCain, giving him wins in the 40% or higher while huck and Paul won nothing. McCain simply had too much campaign money flowing in and soon reached the number of pledged delegates to win outright.
In the end, McCain won 70% of the delegates with only 40% of the vote.
And we all have Florida to blame for that mess, since a Florida win translated directly into a Super Tuesday win, since Super Tuesday voted shortly after Florida.
