Presidency 5

HAHA! I also got my mom to sign up for P5, she could care less about it, but I told her I was coming to visit for the debate so she got all excited and said she would sign up for me.

Just registered. I am going to a wedding right before my County caucus and should be getting back the day it is held. Ill be good for the $175 if i am picked. Its the accommodations when the time comes that might be rough on me.

I won't be attending because I don't meet the requirement to be registered as a Republican in the state of Florida 6 months in advance (I was registered back in Illinois after RP's 2008 campaign but didn't both to down here until a month or so back).

Pinellas County.

10 mins till this kicks off and there are only about 50 people here. Saw the guy I donated to for congress at the ballot box.

Christ nevermind. Just checked my email. I'll be sitting here for another hour before they select delegates.

Well alright, here goes. I showed up at 5:30 and sat around for an hour and half dicking around on my phone in the back of the room. I was shooting the shit with a guy that was doing the same thing and he said the last two he has been attended that there werent enough people to fill the slots.

Once 7:00 rolled around they announced that there were 164 total delegates. 123 (75%) would be selected by drawing. There were 264 registered republicans that signed up to be there. Only 97 showed up so all of us were then selected delegates.

Here's whats kind of fishy. I after i went up to the table I paid by check to the Republican Party of Florida. (No big deal) What i didnt like is that all the lady did was look at my check and the delegate form i filled out said "Ok" then put it in a pile with a lot of other crap. The ticket i had was not turned in nor did they check it. We did have to write the ticket number on the delegate form but that was all they really have to confirm i am who i say i am when i turned that sheet in. Furthermore, there was really no verification that i paid other than that sheet and the check. If they lose those then im out of luck i guess.

They are either making more work for them to match all the people up or they are going to lose a whole bunch of shit and I, along with others, wont be a delegate anymore. I did take a picture of my ticket though which is on my phone but there is nothing on it to that says that ticket belongs to me.

Cliffs Notes version: Im a delegate (by "default" as my wife puts it)

Also remember that in Florida, we spell Ron Paul like this: G-A-R-Y J-O-H-N-S-O-N. :D

I live right across the bridge from you. Why the hell would vote for Gary Johnson? Id vote for him if RP wasnt in it but he is so GJ gets the back seat. :D

Even if you didn't sign up, go to the caucus. Many areas have had such poor showing that they might let you sign up (and pay). If your area has already had the caucus to select delegates, call your county REC and ask if you can go.

I got called for a delegate seat today. I will be going and paying for my ticket tomorrow :) How would I go about getting help for travel and hotel cost to get there in September?

Oh and for those who want to know, I am from Duval County and and found this forum and post from a Facebook link. I was pretty active in the Ron Paul 2008 campaign up here. Dr Paul will be here in Jacksonville on Friday and I am looking forward to seeing him!

Congrats on being a delegate. So are you one of the 25% that they personally pick and dont have to go through the "lottery"?

As for accommodations i am just planning on getting a room at a Best Western or something close by possibly. At the caucus they gave me a flyer with 3 hotels to choose from. They ranged for $109 to $149 a night. You can get a room at Best Western for about $60 i saw. Times that by 2 and the stay will be 120.

Bump! This needs to go out to all of our Florida members and needs to be coordinated with a local caucus schedule.
