No, I'm in DC. And I had a lot of Deaniac friends in '04 in their 20s / 30s who came back disappointed and perplexed that Iowans hadn't enjoyed thousands of know-it-all kids from the coasts pouring in to tell them how to vote (and hadn't voted for their candidate).

Remember, the one decent blow Ed Failor Jr. landed on Kent Snyder on the Jan Mickelson show was that 99% of the calls were coming from out of state and therefore didn't reflect the views of Iowans.

Imagine how 5,000 non-Iowans protesting will play, and how loudly Ed Failor will point it out, and how the media will scan the crowd, ask rallyers where they're from, and play up the "handful of supporters from out of state" meme.

We aren't protesting.

The only decent blow Failor landed was people called his house and were rude, but we don't even know the validity of those claims. He sure didn't go to any effort to mention how I personally stopped in his office - so I question his take.

Plenty of Iowans will be there. As will plenty of other Midwestern people.

It's not like reporters can't/won't ask 20 or 30 rallyers what state they're from. Reporters are all on our side so they won't ask inconvenient questions like that.

Yeah, this may have more to do with news cycles than anything.

I understand the sentiment with some of the frustration here....

I've only recently gotten involved, but I have spent a lot of hours already with this thing. I've already told my wife I am in Des Moines next week, and I am also making plans regarding the straw poll.

I am the Organizer for the Iowa Border States Coalition meetup, only because I recognized a need for a group of people to start networking in one centralized location, and so far, so good. I am proud to know the coalition was referenced regarding the conference call this morning, which I wasn't a part of, so for those of you who are frustrated, I understand, but this is the beginning of a movement, and it does need to be handled with care.

I'm not on the inside, but how the public perceives this campaign is going to be crucial, and laying the groundwork and strategy regarding this type of public relations challenge is a difficult task.

With all that said, we do need to start transferring all of the internet momentum into tangible, visible momentum on the ground in Iowa. Organizers in the Iowa Border States Coalition will be able to use that as a hub to communicate to all of those groups, and it might be a good idea for those of you in different regions of the country to start similar groups to streamline communication amongst each other.

Thanks for your contribution. We could all do more for RP's campaign including myself.

I think this is a great announcement! A large crowd and the good Dr. speaking the truth at a very important state to the peeps who will no undoubtedly be immediately turned on to this good man. This will convert many many people to Dr. Paul and be a huge momentum builder in Iowa. This could very well be the clencher that eventually turns the straw poll over to Dr. Paul.

I wonder if the candidates at the "tax" and "christian" forum will head on over? They definitely need to learn about freedom, the constitution and "life, liberty and the pusuit of happiness".

Okay, I missed the entire build up to this; it seems to me that people were expecting something on the absurd level like 'Mitt Romney and Mike Bloomberg Endorse Paul.' Frankly, I think this is potentially better than a Tancredo endorsement (I doubt his nod would have much tangible affect on things, at least no net positive). Iowa media covering this straw poll will not be able to pass up jotting at least a few notes on how the man banned from the debate drew the biggest crowd. Who knows, there could be some folks from the poll who come into the Ron Paul event out of pure curiosity.

Excellent work guys! And for you naysayers, if you think John 'let you down' try to top this with your own events and plans!

This isn't a protest, it is a support rally, two different things

Lets face it, the problem #1 with Ron's campaign is simply that he does not get the exposure other candidates do (fair or not, thats the harsh reality). BUT, it seems that when people do learn who Ron is, and what he stands for, most of them convert to supporting him in a big way.

Wear Ron Paul clothes, hats, pins, make Ron Paul revolution signs, and act in a respectable way. If you are there, bring out Ron Paul t-shirts for others to wear; the more Ron Paul shirts, the better. People will see that, and think "hmmm, I wonder who this Ron Paul guy is, and why people like him so much. I hear he's holding his own forum after this, maybe I should go see what he is about."

If you cause havoc and disrupt the other forum and act obnoxious, you will not be taken seriously, and people will not want to go see him, because they won't want to be around onboxious people. If you do this, you are severely hurting Dr. Paul's chances of getting support from people who get their information on candidates from the evening news (and thus, don't know who Ron is.)"
