The Santorum surge has to do with all his TV ads, I think. He's been spewing crap like, "Rick Santorum is the only conservative in the race," and, "Rick Santorum is the only candidate who will cut spending and has a plan to restore America."

Reagan was a master at this. If you listen to his speeches from 76 through 80, you can see that he held many of the same convictions as Paul, but it was his delivery of the message that enabled him to win by a landslide.

From what I can see, he has been putting forth a decent effort there. Newt is falling and people are looking for a viable alternative. Unfortunately Paul has not been able to establish viability. I am hoping that the ground game and organization in MN will bring us a win. We have been working in that state since before Iowa. So if we are able to secure a victory tonight, we can finally be viewed as a viable alternative to the other candidates.

Santorum has dominated our airwaves from what I've seen. I get my TV-watching in when I go for my nightly visit to eat with my grandfather. You see, he's 90 and doesn't cook, so my mom, brother, and I all go eat with him until we get burnt out from listening to him complain.

I was in the dining room one night and heard an ad start up on Fox News. It talked about the "other candidates" being one and the same, how there was only one conservative in the race, and only candidate with a plan to cut spending and restore America to its former glory. The voice over sounded like the guy from "Serial Hypocracy" and everything. I made a mad dash for the living room thinking, "Wow! Finally, a Ron Paul ad playing in Minnesota, and on Fox News to boot! This is gold!" I reached the living room and came face-to-face with Santorum's face and that announcer guy saying, "Rick Santorum is that man!"

This was followed up by a long-winded rant on my part about how much of a lie that ad was. I didn't have to worry about it affecting my grandpa, though. The guy is 90, served in WW2, worked for the government his whole life ("Private sector? What's that?"), and has NEVER voted ever. He just says, "It's all rigged anyway." He won't vote, plain and simple.

Granted, for working in the government his whole life, he doesn't have a good understanding of politics in general, or economics.

Anyway, I think that's why Santorum is doing so well. People believe that crap when they hear it, and I've had a heck of a time fighting with people over it.

Ok I did find a news article, but all it stated was that the campaign said there was a "substantial" ad buy. I sure as heck hope so, considering the caucuses were supposedly a key part of the strategy. I guess we will have to wait and see if they were successful or not.

They may not be targeting your TV market. The campaign should stick to where they have the most upside, and that's in the big cities. The campaign should be advertising in MSP, Rochester, Mankato, and maybe a few others.

True point, but if Santorum's poll numbers are any indication, Ron Paul's message (and he is definitely using it in his ads) is popular in rural areas, too. It also shows that the smaller areas have enough pull to overtake other candidates.
