In Newsweek's most recent publication ("How They See It") they feature an interview with General Petraeus. Talking about Afghanistan, they eventually turn to the topic of negotiations with the Taliban.
Petraeus says, and I quote "There has been a willingness [to reach out]; I gather that Karzai's brother met with Mullah Omar or his close aides in Saudi Arabia."
This is page 58 of the magazine.
I did a double take when I read this. Omar is the leader of the Taliban, at least "officially", and is supposed to be a wanted fugitive with a reward on his head, in hiding. How the hell did he get all the way to Saudi Arabia, if this is true?
If he did, I only see two explanations...
1. The Saudi Monarchy aren't the American puppets they pretend to be, and are in league with America's foes. They offered Omar shelter.
OR
2. The U.S. Command knew about this, and let it happen. They let the leader of the Taliban slip through, perhaps even giving him protection. This would mean our leaders are engaged in treason by Constitutional standards ("aiding and abetting enemies during time of war")
