THREAD: James Bond books rewritten to remove ‘offensive’ references

Racial references have been removed from Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels following a sensitivity review.

Terms such as the n-word, which featured in his writing from the 1950s and 1960s, have been edited out of new editions of the 007 books, which are set for reissue in April.

Some depictions of Black people have also been reworked or removed, but references to other ethnicities, including the use of a term for east Asian people and Bond’s mocking views of Oddjob, Goldfinger’s Korean henchman, remain.

Revised lines include Bond’s assessment in Live and Let Die that African would-be criminals are “pretty law-abiding chaps I should have thought, except when they’ve drunk too much”, which has been changed to “pretty law-abiding chaps I should have thought”.

However, references to the “sweet tang of rape”, “blithering women”, doing a “man’s work”, and homosexuality being described as a “stubborn disability” have been kept in, reported The Daily Telegraph.

A disclaimer accompanying the new editions is expected to read: “This book was written at a time when terms and attitudes which might be considered offensive by modern readers were commonplace.

“A number of updates have been made in this edition, while keeping as close as possible to the original text and the period in which it is set.”

It comes after Ian Fleming Publications Ltd, which owns the rights to his work, commissioned a review by sensitivity readers:rolleyes: of the James Bond series. The Independent has contacted Ian Fleming Publications Ltd for comment.

LA prosecutor in Hannah Tubbs case slams suspension, Gascon: 'Punished for hurting child molester's feelings'

The Los Angeles County deputy district attorney suspended for misgendering a trans child molester fired back at District Attorney George Gascon on Monday, accusing him of endangering children with "misguided" progressive policies after trying a trans woman as a juvenile.

Shea Sanna, 34, who had been the lead prosecutor in the case that garnered national attention, told Fox News on Monday that he was unjustly punished by Gascon because he did not use the preferred pronouns of convicted child molester Hannah Tubbs when raising concerns that Tubbs was attempting to use gender identity to game the justice system. Sources say Sanna's ruse claim, which was supported by jailhouse phone calls between Tubbs and her father, made others in Gascon's office uncomfortable and resulted in his five-day suspension.

"I was suspended because I did not use the preferred pronouns of a child molester when notifying the administration that I had evidence that James Tubbs was perpetrating a fraud on the court, playing the DAS' office and perpetrating a fraud on our justice system," Sanna said in an interview on "Tucker Carlson Tonight."

Hannah Tubbs, formerly known as James Tubbs, is a convicted child molester and accused murderer who allegedly began identifying as female only after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in a Denny's bathroom stall, in order to get placed with juvenile girls while awaiting trial.

"James Tubbs was 26 years old and came from prison to the juvenile facility. So it wasn’t like this was a juvenile and was convicted as a juvenile…," Sanna said.
