Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) surged ahead of his rivals to join former Vice President Joe Biden in a statistical dead heat atop the 2020 Democratic presidential primary field, according to a new poll.

Sanders now leads the field with 27 percent support from Democrats and Democratic leaning independents, based on the CNN national poll released Wednesday.

Sanders’s support jumped 7 points since last month, placing him in a virtual tie for first with Biden, who is at 24 percent. Sanders’s 3-point lead is within the poll’s margin of error.

Biden’s support had dipped just 2 points since December.

Sanders has seen a fairly steady increase in support in the monthly CNN polls since August, when he registered at 15 percent. Biden had maintained a fairly steady lead over the last six months, starting at 29 percent in August, until this month’s poll when Sanders surged ahead.

The top two candidates have a significant lead over the rest of the field. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) trailed Biden by 10 points, in third place with 14 percent. Warren’s support decreased 2 points since the December poll.

Pete Buttigieg trails her by 3 points at 11 percent, a 3-point uptick for the former South Bend, Ind., mayor since last month.

With just two weeks before the primary voting season begins in Iowa, no other candidates registered double-digit support in the new survey.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is at 5 percent, followed by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Andrew Yang at 4 percent each. Tom Steyer is at 2 percent, and no other candidates are above 1 percent, based on the poll.

The poll surveyed 500 Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents. It was conducted between Jan. 16 and 19 and has a margin of error of 5.3 percentage points.

Mind you I think Trump wins this election, but Sanders is the only candidate in that field that remotely threatens him. People shouldn't forget that Bernie is perceived by alot on the left as their populist candidate. That can be dangerous.

He is the dem populist and that is why he is winning .

If Americans weren't so easily brainwashed this guy would be in dead last in every poll.

I don't see any major differences between bernie & the other democrats.
They are all commies.
Warren is more dangerous than Bernie.

That's because eWarren is an 'all options on the table' neocon!

I think Bernie has a pretty low ceiling. He has a coalition of people who want free stuff and Trump haters. As long as the economy appears strong in November I don't think he will threaten Trump.

Bernie is one of the least threatening. You can win a democrat primary by promising more free stuff, but that is much harder to to in the presidential election.

You guys don't know any actual leftists, I guess.

We all hate Bernie here, but you know who hates Bernie at least three times as much as we do?
Every other democrat who doesn't support him.

There is a strong sentiment of "the party is tearing itself apart" among them right now but what they're really saying is "Bernie is tearing the party apart right now".

You have to remember that these people are all delusional. They literally can't see anything wrong with what happened between him and Warren at the CNN debate. All they can see is this rabble-rouser who should have gone into retirement well before the 2016 Democratic convention.

They don't even forgive him for staying in the 2016 race, you know.

Alot of the GOP hated Trump too when he ran. And then they all held their collective noses and voted for him. I know a group of die hard socialists. They love them some Bernie. You know what happens when you get away from the DNC club humpers what the opinion of Bernie is? It's pretty solid among regular old lefties and especially college kids. That reminds me how it's alot more like Ron Paul than people want to admit. If he even gets even the slightest momentum winning a few primaries, I would wager the DNC will get behind the guy cause he's "Not Trump". That's how this game has worked for my entire adult lifetime.

I just don't think dems will allow Bernie to win the nomination. I will take the knock if it doesn't happen but, I still think Hillary or Michelle will come out to be the so called nominee.

Bing fucking go.

He will be cheated.
One reason he will be cheated is that the DNC knows that he will scare millions of people into voting for Trump.
