Thou shall not steal. If you are on food stamps you are stealing from somebody else.

Lucky for me, the righteous will never have to beg for bread. But even if that verse were not true, I'd rather go hungry than steal.

1 star for the 20% who steal.

Is sending your kid to public school stealing?

Visiting the Smithsonian?

Driving on public roads?

Calling the police when your house is broken into?

Collecting Social Security when you retire?

And so on....

My dad estimates that my family has paid over $1.5 million in taxes to all levels of government.

I'm not unemployed, but i was thinking of getting a Bridge card which is a card that reloads $200 every month to buy food. My dad says that he is just to the point that you should take what you can get, but DON'T BECOME RELIANT.
The dumb thing is I was told by someone who has a bridge card here at my school that i can get one just for living in the dorm rooms. I was thinking of getting one next year when I hope to move into an on-campus school run apartment.

Think i should get one?

No I'm not on food stamps.

But I know someone who is and they get over 400.00 a month in food stamps plus always go to these ministries for free food. They drive a 40,000.00 truck with 2 other cars, always remodeling their home, get 2 free tanks of heating oil a year, on some kinda electric service where they only pay like 30.00 a month, thousands of $$$ of government funded money every year for these online college classes that cost next to nothing .. and always going on weekend vacations and winning the books at the clubs.

Ya I'm a bit jealous, but I sleep good at night knowing I get on 14 horses a day at the racetrack to pay for my new Ford Power Stroke. Grow, cut and bale 92 acres of alfalfa 3-4 times a year to pay for my 3 weeks of measly vacation with winter off and of course pay my taxes so her family can rub it in my face while calling me from Cancun Mexico while I feed their fish, cats and dogs and water their plants. I have a part time job also at a dairy farm that pays for all my sons extra curricular activities.

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother.

I probably could've used food stamps when I was going a meal every other day this past summer, but I'm stubborn like that..

I am considering getting food stamps though now so I can buy food/water to stock up on. My food storage is pitifully low.

Has anybody else noticed the huge "We Accept SNAP" placards popping up like weeds at convenience stores? They're all over the stores here.

OMG yes. I keep telling people that but they think I'm crazy or exaggerating. Idiots. They just don't pay attention. lol

Part of the reason is because food stamp demographic is so big that everyone wants in one the action. Food marker in Manhattan advertises all over MTA that they accept food stamps.

No. I was on them for a month once upon a time, and felt disgusting about it. It was the idea of my then-husband, whose idea of hard work was telling everyone how hard he worked (when he didn't actually have a job). Never again. I have been in tight spots and worked my way out of them, and I have had to ask for help which I repaid when I could find the person who helped me (anonymous donors are rough that way). I've come to the educated conclusion that the latter is a far better system for doing things, and am not under any illusion that it's "free money" or "taking back my money." My money has long since been spent. The theft of my money to pay for substandard food for myself is no more appealing than the theft of my money to pay for "improvement projects" or to fund broken systems across this country.

No, I'm not on food stamps. I know how it works, I know what it's like, and I guess you can call me a snob but I'd rather get my charity from people who voluntarily give it, and who I can pay back and feel I'm "even" with.

No. And it isn't true that getting on them is so easy if you're unemployed. In Texas you have to have like a million kids and be expecting more. And not understanding English is also a plus.

But I don't want them.

I want to get on them. How much do you have to make? Does it matter if you have a new car? I'd like to get free soda, beef jerky, and chips from 711 and some Jack in the Box. Maybe take a vegas trip. I'm not joking.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to get "free" goodies whose costs have been outsourced to others. The problem comes when people act on those wants and choose to get on food stamps, especially when the people have other alternatives.

I'd say definitely. Even driving is a guilt trip because of the gov't we have. I'd even go so far as to blame gov't for my general aloofness - the implications of how it has us set up constantly provokes thought -- or it could be a disorder on my part. It's a disgusting system I cannot work with. It's impossible to determine how much money has gone into what you're using and if you're taking more than you've given. I think people who believe that make up a fairly large wing of the non-utilitarian anarchists.

I do not see any solution except a government which charges user fees for everything, and at that point, there isn't much point in having a gov't at all.

Ofc, at the same time, I realize that gov't money isn't necessarily taxpayer money, and I don't believe the gov't is a hostile occupier, not a representation of its citizens' will, so that helps with the theft.

Instead of money to bailout banks they could use that pay for more food stamps. It looks like its needed.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but come on. You want convenience foods or specialty items, fine--don't use other people's money to buy it.

It is not other people's money Amy, I have worked all my life and have never collected unemployment or welfare or used government funded health care although I have paid taxes in and paid taxes on goods. I paid for all my education myself while working and being a single mom.

I don't want to eat convience foods but I do eat so called "speciality foods". . If getting a $200 FS card is too much to ask for a person who has been paying in for close to 40 years and if I want to buy a $10 jar of nutritious tahini instead of a $1 jar of chemically ladden peanut butter that is my business. If I do not eat well I have no doubt that the stress of having no money would kill me. I grow my own food too but, while waiting for the food to mature I still might need to eat something. I wish I did not need to eat. :(

I am allergic to both corn and artifical sweeteners do you have any idea how many foods have this stuff in it? Not many foods do not have one or the other of these ingreidents and sometimes both. The foods that don't have these ingreidents in them I guess fall into the range of speciality foods.

I don't want to break your heart Amy but I think it is a lot worse out here than you know. I am glad that you do not know how bad it really is and that you can get all upity about other people's money. You are one less person I need to be concerned about. Some areas have more unemployment than others. Walk a mile in a person's shoes before you judge.

I'm very, very lucky to not be allergic to artificial sweeteners. Good luck, WP, and please continue supporting liberty with your welfare!

Being married to Amy, I can tell you she hasn't experienced shit. In her 40 years of life, all of them productive, she's been completely spoiled.

I've been through food lines (the private ones, as a child -- you can only find if you actually look) and I can tell you they're tough. You only get potatoes, yogurt, and carrots - and whatever else they happen to have, ofc. I mean -- What do I look like - a fucking rabbit?

Edit: Everything less the last paragraph was utterly sarcastic.

I am glad Amy does not have to worry truely I am. I worried about being on FS but hey really it is the least of my problems. I have been a producer for close to 40 years I kept myself under the radar as much as possible I am a freedom fighter all the way.

please continue supporting liberty with your welfare!
I am a survivor when the SHTF I will probably be better off than many many people my only hope is that I will be where I can help many people to survive. The skills I have will be more valuable then when people need to know how to identify edible wild foods and medicines ect...Right now there are many people who are much worse off than me with children to feed and clothe. I cannot imagine how it would be for me right now if my child were not on his own I would have probably had to resort to some pretty low down things to make it with a child.

In the bar where I work frantic moms come in everyday who have never considered dancing topless who feel that they have no choice now because they cannot find a job anywhere else. I try to help them maintain a sence of dignaty. At least they do not have to resort to prostitution and can continue to look for other work while dancing. I am given a tremendous oppertunity to talk about liberty at the bar.

I hope the fed will colapse and our economy will be restored so that people will not have to use fs.
